After several weeks of consideration and reading through this forum, I did it.
Just got my Prius today. Its an 08 with 44k on the clock. I am very happy with the options, it is fully loaded with leather, navi, backup camera. I averaged 49mpg on the 72 mile drive home. So, I guess it has met my expectations. I drive close to 3000 miles a month with a mixture of freeway and local, so if I can maintain this current gas mileage, I will be very happy.

You will find seasonal variations, but yes, the Prius really does those kinda numbers when driven long distances.

I get 40 MPG in winter, then 47 MPG in spring and fall. Summer averages 42 MPG for me. Your climate and variations will differ, but be aware that Prius likes warmer temps up to about 80 then warmer temps start tempting you to use more A/C.
