The universal lock pick is definitely worth it. I am kind of dissapointed on the iPod "interface" since it does not allow steering wheel control. I am hoping the Coastal Tech Universal Lock does not interfere with the VAIS Soundlinq. Those together would be the perfect combo.

One reason is that the software override that works in the 2004-2005 doesn't work on the 2006. Since one of the overrides (at least) acts as an automatic button pusher for that override it won't work in the 2006. The Lockpick with the BT override may work as it connects to the MFD (at least it used to) as opposed to the NAV system.

The reason I feel that it may work, as there is two purple wires under the A/C vent cover to the right of the MFD. If you cut those (and install a switch), you can have access. Just flip the switch off to enter data and then flip it back on.

 

Any ideas on how hard the install is for the ultimate lockpick?

Does anyone know how my DVD player will "connect" to the MFD or this lockpick device...are there cables that hang out from somewhere? Does anyone know?

 

On 2006 the lockout is controlled by speed input to the MFD.

Simply interrupting the input (cutting the wire and installing a switch) defeats the lock-out. The only thing you loose is the 5 minute mileage graph, everything else still works. Not the ideal solution, but an accetpable work-around IMHO.

Has anyone really validated this claim? I would think it would affect the miles driven and MPG display of the MFD as well - or do those functions use separate wheel rotation inputs other than the purple wires?

I have a 2005 with the Coastal Nav Enhancement kit (now they call it a lockpick), so I can only vouch for the BT override. I have a push-on/push-off button installed. When I push the button to OFF, the wheels on the Energy screen stop moving. This is because the car now thinks that it has stopped (like at a light). When done dialing, and the button is pushed to ON, the wheels start turning again. If I left it off for 5 minutes, there would be a 0 mpg spot on the Consumption screen. Since I have it off for only about 30 seconds, I don't lose any data.

I think it would depend on where you plug it in. The NAV override connects to the NAV unit and can be installed in less than 5 minutes. If it connects to the MFD, then it would take longer. Coastal's kits are generally easy to install with good instructions.
