Today I have set a new distance record on my 2006 Prius Plug In. 2751.8 miles and 272.62MPG.

This tank started out on August 8th and ended today December 4th. This tank started with about 200 miles of all highway and the rest was all my normal commute. This tank ended with about 2% fuel remaining according to my CAN-View.

    Here are some stats.

    Distance: 2751.8
    Calculated MPG: 272.62MPG
    MPG Equivalent: 113.1MPGe
    Gallons gas used: 10.094 @ $2.649
Watt hours used: 478343.3 @ 8 cents per kWh
    Watt hours per mile: 173.83
    Total tank cost: $65.01
    Cents per mile: 2.4

    Here are some pictures.

CAN-View. This is all in metric. It actually has 124hrs recorded. None of the numbers are really right.

This next tank will be staring out the same way with about 200 miles of all highway. I will be getting my Hymotion battery's firmware updated in Columbus this Thursday. Hopefully I will be able to do a quick fill up in January or February and try for a 3000+ mile 300+MPG tank.

Do you know how much electricity you used during this test?

Unleaded fuel doesn't last so long you know. I suppose in a modern car where it is not vented to atmosphere maybe there will not be a problem but I had a Merc with a LPG conversion and after 3 months of no use the petrol would hardly run the car at all and it leaves all kinds of crap stuck to the insides of the fuel system.

I have the same question. Just in case I need to store the car for a month, say, is it better to leave the fuel tank near empty or does it not matter?

Maybe add some fuel stabilizer? I have done that for small engines that see seasonal use, and once for a vw microbus that I stored for the winter. Don't know what it would do for regular use in an engine. I think if I had the car in this thread, I'd fill as often as everyone else by only putting in a gallon or 2 at a time.

To TheForce - I love these posts. Extremely inspiring!

Yep, fuel stabilizer like Stabil is available at every auto parts store. We've had many motorcycles and scooters and, to store them for the winter, you just add a little Stabil a half tank of gas, fill the tank to mix it up and drive a few miles to get it through the entire fuel system. Never had any issues.
