    Hello All,

I have been a bystander on this forum for a while and the information has been really helpful. Now I come needing help.

I changed my 2004 Toyota Prius drivers side headlight yesterday, and now when I go to drive it I get the Red triangle of death and the ((!)) symbol with the middle console mentioning a problem. Any ideas as to what it could be?

    welcome!

it's unlikely the headlight caused it, unless it's not working.

the triangle simply means you have trouble codes that need to be read. you will need a prius aware scanner, dealer or hybrid shop with appropriate scanner.

    any problems with the car?

Nothing that I known of is wrong with the car. My wife saw that the headlight was out so I changed it. I bough the car used so I have already had to change out the main big battery, done the brakes. It happened after wards and was maybe wondering did I hit something while doing the light. It’s going to a shop tomorrow that deals with Hybrids, hopefully it’s an easy fix. Hoping to get it fixed to drive to Denver.

What exactly did you do to change the headlight? Changed the bulb or the assembly? Did you disconnect the hybrid or 12v battery? Hopefully it was just a bulb and you only disconnected the bulb connector.

Normal check engine or maintenance lights won't turn on the triangle. That is usually from systems like the hybrid battery, inverter or brake booster assemblies. If the hybrid battery was used, reconditioned, refurbished or repainted, the problem could be the hybrid battery. If bought at the Toyota dealer it is normally new. If the supplier of the battery is near by, I would take the car to them first.

Changed the bulb, disconnected the hybrid battery. Took the car in to see if they could pull codes and it looks like it’s a P3015 code saying my battery pack 5 is bad. I had it changed with a refurbished battery. Luckily it’s still under warranty.

No need to disconnect the hybrid battery in the future.
