On sale this week for $120 at Sports Authority, in fact. Seems
like an okay unit, although it needs a bit more stiffening so the
side horizontals don't bow inward quite as frighteningly.

seeing the wordstring "adult play pen" in your url piqued my curiosity. :p looks like a neat device, and helpful for events in the sun. doesn't Wayne (FireEngineer) have something similar too?

Actually had is the correct word. I had one exactly the same, problem is if the legs aren't achored down REAL solid in any decent wind the top scissor supports turn to wet noodles and bend like crazy. I have since gone to a five leg dome sun shelter from Coleman, more stable in the wind, easy to bungee to the Prius hood/hatch.

I'm going to make some sort of drop-in corner braces to keep those
side structures pushed out against the canopy, and hopefully they'll
behave like slightly drier noodles. I've got the basics of a design
idea, but it needs to stop raining before I can go out and cut wood..

Well, I got to it okay. Now if it had been x-rated?

Neat! That looks like it could be good for a few outdoor events.

After seeing your setup I've pretty much decided this will be my camping configuration during the Hybridfest trip: my (similar style) gazebo + Motel Prius with the hatch left open for circulation. I was concerned about having enough sleeping room, but after taking some measurements with the back seats down and the fronts leaning forward, I've concluded it will work. Now to figure the best way to configure mosquito netting ....
