Thinking about going the brand new battery route. To my understanding the warranty is only 1 year if someone else installs it correct? I think what concerns me is even though the battery may be unused, it’s an old battery that’s been sitting on a shelf forever right? The year one warranty makes me really nervous, even being new, when I see hybrid shops offering 2-5 year warranties for their reconditioning services.

Are you guys confident that the new battery would for sure outlast that warranty?

yes, they are in short supply, and have not been sitting long.

2-5 year warranty on reconditioned is necessary, cause that is how long they last. then think about towing, downtime, labor (if not included) company reliability. go with new or salvage.

A new battery will outlast the warranty ;).

What’s your budget and reliability requirements?

They want to suck you in with the promise of a longer warranty. Resist;).

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Toyota is a huge company... The recent lowering in price for brand new gen 2 replacement packs to $1950 indicates not a scarcity of old outdated batteries but that Toyota realized that there's a huge market for them and they contracted with a vendor, likely Panasonic, to produce huge amounts of the old style pack. As for used an rebuilt modules & packs there's way too many of them on the market, especially Craig's list and ebay, which is why many resellers have dropped their prices as well. Anyone who thinks there's a scarcity is crazy!

There is demand. The autoway i bought my 07 new from last time I checked couple weeks ago there was a backorder of 63 prepaid hybrid battery orders.
The parts guy is very nice and he showed me in his computer.

A new toyota hybrid battery will last for years. And years. Very high quality.

Exactly, that kind of backorder, combined with recent price drop... That means they dropped huge amounts of money on a massive new order for replacement packs.
