So the red triangle /check engine showed its ugly face today at 170,000 miles on my beloved 2005. Took it to the parts store and had them check the codes. It got a P0a80 code. Best i can tell from reading is the HV battery has failed. Those who have been through this can you tell me what are the best options? I'm sure I can do the job myself if needed.

I have heard good things about these guys from others, but I have no experience myself with them:

Well, I think I'm going to spend the extra money and go with a new one. Any way to beat the $2,588.00 (with core exchange) price at the local Toyota dealers? Will Toyota cut you any slack on the price with 169K miles?

Greentech headquarters is in Portland IIRC. No personal experience with them, apart from some email exchange regarding Civic hybrid batteries. And I'm not sure if I've spelled that name correctly. They have mobile installers too I think.

Still, brand new from dealership is first choice? That price sounds pretty good.

I think Wa. is 10/150. By the way that price doesn't include an install. That's just an out the door part price. I will be doing that myself. Anyone ever install one and have suggestions, or know a good link?

Do you get the same warranty if DIY??

I know: the labour charge amounts to a warranty charge, but still something to consider. Plus, if there's ANY wrinkles, if they're doing it it's their responsibility.

Not even sure what they charge to install at the dealer. I thought I was told 3 yrs if they install, and 1 if I do it.

Just know they expect the returned battery to be packaged in a certain way. I know @ericbecky has said this can be a sticky wicket.

    Good luck (y)

I was going to just dump it on the counter like a broken starter. I better do some research.

One trick bit is what to return. I guess basically all the bits you got with the new battery, and none that you didn't, lol.

So I went to a Toyota dealer to buy a new battery. Sounds easy right? So they inspect my core and tell me its not complete. They need the whole wiring harness that plugs into the battery (not the main two power connectors, but the 3 plug connectors). They said its because the new battery comes with these. So these would all have to be cut. Not sure I understand why Toyota would want you to cut perfectly good wires. Anyone deal with this?

i would want to see the new one, before cutting any wires in my car. hard to believe you would have to splice wires for the install, never heard that before.

Miscommunication? The "split line" has GOT to be at a connector of some sort.
