    Hello all,

I'm pleased to report that a Japanese lady Prius driver, TeddyGirl, achived 47.69 km/L (112 mpg), 2343 km/tank (1,456 miles)!!!

The marathon team did 110 mpg and 1,397 miles last summer, so this is the world record even done by a single driver.
The previous record by single driver was 1,372 miles by Nobu@Osaka in Japan.
    http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=19858&hl=

The displayed mileage was 49.1km/L (115 mpg).
She put 49.13 liter (12.99 US gallons), calc mileage was 47.69 km/L (112 mpg).

Wow, impressive tank. Was this over a few weeks or one long marathon drive (I assume a single driver couldn't go that far without rest breaks).

Shoot, wish I could read how she did it!

Hey Ken, how the heck do you guys support the Japanese alphabet through the keyboard? I always figured you'd all just use the phonetic symbols, but obviously not.

She did this under "normal" riding conditions? Man that is impressive!

Does she have any specific techniques (beyond pulse&glide)? How often do people behind her honk? (wait Japan is a very polite land, maybe that helps!)

    Wow. That's simply impressive.
And the responses she's getting on the Japanese site are truly inspirational. That is, I'm assuming they are since I can't read them. :p

Did she run out of gas before refilling? What kind of tires does she has?

I'm probably inviting a "late hit" penalty, but let me also ask -- how did she do it? Why am I guzzling along at a mere 48.5???

    Thats awsome!

If I could find a nice long stretch of 4 lane 35-40mph level road around here I would attempt to bring back the record to the states next year. I'm currently 300 miles into my tank and its reading 68.1 on the screen. My P&G is not that great yet but its getting there. Might have to get a canview to help me out. Maybe next year my car and myself will be ready for the challenge. :D

112, that's nothing. I can have people push my Prius along to an MPG better than that. Say... wait a minute...

Her basic technique is P&G. Pulse up to 60 km/h (37 mph), then glide down to 35 km/h (22 mph).
(Edit: The 35 km/h was her old comment. Maybe, it was lower this time. I'll update when I get new information.)
    (Edit: Aug 19. 55<->35 km/h or 50<->30 km/h, 20 km/h range.)

It looks her environment is very good for mileage. She drives in a country road where is very few signals and very few traffic.

    I don't think so.
She had already the best life time mileage record posted below...
    http://eshy.s22.xrea.com/cgi-bin/nenpi/ran...i?category_s=20
The top of the left column is the life time mileage ranks.
However, she has not posted this latest one as of today.
(Edit: The data was posted on Aug 17th.)
Her Prius is Turing edition, so she had 16 inch Michelin Pilot Primacy.
She has now Japanese 15 inch standard tires, Goodyear GT3. I can find it on UK site...
    http://eu.goodyear.com/uk_en/tires/repository/GT3/index.jsp
A lot of Touring edition users, including myself, have replaced 16 inch tires with 15 inch Goodyear GT3 for mileage.

I want Kanji lettering on my MFD . . . it looks cool. :D

As an added benefit, anytime a unwitting passenger starts to mess with the MDF you can yell at them, “For God sake, NOT THAT BUTTON!!!!†

lol.. and to think we want the 16" wheels haha. You should tell those Japanese people that there's a market for their wheels here.

Hmm, I'm reading this as I should just get some Japanese super-lightweight 15" wheels (11 pounds) instead of the 16" 17" everybody on this side of the lake is going for. :)

You know, weight may be the operative word here. She probably weighs 90 pounds wet. I'm 200.

Maybe Fusco has the direct implications of a pound of "cargo" on MPG.

If I wasn't concerned with keeping my tracking sheet pure, I'd be up for trying to cheat the system and see what I can do. Here is what I would try first.

At the end of every commute leg(65 miles), add 1/2 gallon of gas to my tank. That shouldn't be enough to reset the mfd. Would the car eventually just have 900 miles on the tank but still read 52mpg overall? Or, would the thing begin to give me honkin good mpg numbers figuring I'm still on that same 10.5 gallons that was measured at last fillup?

I don't recall if the 50 wh little green leaf car symbols represent only energy captured through regenerative braking or if it also represents electrical energy stored in the battery while the ICE is running.

Neither of the photos of her MFD on the Japanese site show any of these icons.
