This has been a wonderful forum. It helped me decide to get my first Prius last week.

My question is: is there a way to lock the car by touch (similar to the driver's side handle) on the hatchback? The documentation hints at this possibility, but I can't figure it out. Seems like it would be a good idea since the driver is often accessing the trunk space before needing to lock the car.

    Thanks in advance. :)

Well in my 2006, there is a small black button exactly like the front doors for the smart locking. I generally press that to lock the car after I grab something out of the back.

Do the Gen III's not have it?

Maybe I'm not understanding the question, but...couldn't you use the small black button on the remote? :)

No Gen.3 doesn't have the black buttons. Now with Pkg. 2 the only way to lock the doors is to touch the sensor on the outside driver door handle. Not sure about the higher packages. Yeah you can always use the remote.

On my Prius V (not sure about other models) just to the right of the area you press to open the hatch is a soft button that you press to lock the car (instructions in owners manual).

This is also on the IV, but not on the II or III.

There should be a square black button next to the hatch handle. You may not have that button if you didn't get the 3 doors Smartkey option.

For the benefit of any UK T4 Prius owners who are wondering about this, I can confirm that there are two Smart Entry buttons on the hatch handle. The flat, larger, pad to the left is the unlock one, the small, raised, pad on the right is the lock button.

As stated previously, the II and III only have the SKS sensor on the driver's door. Your info indicates that you have a III like mine. So, the only touch sensor lock is on the driver's side door. You have the option of unlocking only the driver's door or all doors from the driver's touch sensor. The touch sensor locks all doors.

The IV and V have the SKS touch sensors on the driver's, passenger and hatch doors.

To lock from the hatch on the III, you will need to use your remote.

No, Gen IIIs with higher packages than mine do. Thanks!

Looks like I'm going to have to use the remote in this situation. Downright primitive, isn't it. :p

Apparently on PII and PIII models that's not an option. Good news: my new Prius is not malfunctioning. Bad news: I'll have to use the driver's side button or the remote. That's not so bad.
    Thanks for your reply.
