From the little reading I have done here, this seems like a great forum. I wanted some input please. I test drove a 2008 Prius earlier today and was impressed all around. Enjoyed the look, pick-up and the drive. The dealer is asking $13,000. The vehicle has 80,000 miles on it already. I cant find an approximate life span for the car or batteries. Does this seem risky or a decent deal. We commute 90 miles a day so the mileage is very attractive especially since we test drove a mini van before the Prius that got 14.6 MPG.

    thanks

Most of the vehicles that have replaced the HV batteries already are taxis, at about 175,000 to 250,000 miles. I am unclear how that relates to normal drivers.

A normal driver with a 2004 (first year of your model) who drove 15,000 miles a year would have only gone 105,000 miles by now, so normal owners have not reached the end of the HV Battery life. In CARB states the warranty lasts til 150,000 miles

Battery rebuilders are already replacing the earlier designed Gen I batteries, but they have issues the Gen II does not.

The 12 volt battery, like many car batteries is on borrowed time by 4 years. If your 12v battery is original, expect to replace it next winter.

The Fob battery is a CR32032 I think, it should be under $5

Someone else was just curious about the life of various parts on a Generation II Prius (what you're looking at), though on a vehicle with higher mileage. Note Patrick Wong's super helpful answer:

From this forum and from the opinions of technicians at the local dealer, it seems the reliability of the car on the whole is very strong.

Ditto all that, and I'll emphasize paying a Prius technician to check out the car before you buy.

Thanks for your responses. I am still debating this particular Prius but I am set buying one as my next vehicle.
