"We need to begin exploring modern approaches to decreasing dependence on foreign energy sources across a range of areas." No, that's not Larry David at the Earth to America program. It's former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich giving the keynote address at a recent industry event hosted by Rinnai Corporation. Yes, it's the same Newt Gingrich that orchestrated the Republican "Contract With America" back in the mid-1990s.

Hybrid advocates, Sierra Club members, and others who urge a decrease in our dependence on foreign oil appear to have gained an unlikely but important ally...

What do you mean "unlikely ally". Conservatives do NOT wnat to poison the world. We ALL want the same thing...the argument is the path to get there. Or "the devil is in the details"

Arnold and Pataki are two of the most progessive "energy" governors in the country. Both Republicans. I'm sure there are plenty of pro coal democrats in PA, IN, TN and whereever else coal is a big part of the economy.

Yep, there are a lot of green Republicans ... remember, it all started with us in the first place, with Teddy Roosevelt.

We just feel that the market will drive the innovation, when costs rise to the level where alternatives become economical. Then people will develop the alternatives because the profit motive makes them work harder to make the alternatives work.

While higher taxes may reduce consumption, the problem is the money goes to the government. And government just isn't very efficient at utilizing the financial resources it has. For every dollar that goes to Senator X's home state that is the leader in hydrogen research, 49 dollars have to go to all the other states to keep all the hogs happy.

By then the environment will be poisoned beyond redemption, the polar icecaps will have melted and we will be all dead.
