Apparently it will come out in time to compete with the Bolt:

I wonder how much more expensive it will be?

Leaf | Nissan Ireland - that price probably doesn't include the purchase / lease of the battery which is something alot of people don;t know about here

200+ miles is very impressive either way and will suit alot of city drivers and should allay the EV battery fear that so many suffer from

I'm on the horns of a dilemma:
    • ~$13-15,000, now - used Leaf, 60-70 mile range, within one charge hop of Huntsville.
    • ~$30,000, now - new Leaf, 70-80 mile range, within one charge hop of Huntsville.
    • ~$35-40,000, now - various plug-ins with engine
    • ~$??, six months - Volt V2.0
    • ~$?? two years - Leaf, Bolt, e.t.c.
It is nice to have choices.

I like that we're getting more affordable options on longer ranged EV's. Debating whether to just keep driving the prius and wait a few years, or buy a 2nd gen volt and sell the prius to another one of my brothers who needs a more fuel efficient/reliable car. Ah, decisions, decisions...

A used Leaf jumps out at me based on the prices for your area , as you other Prii, they can be used for the longer trips. Leaf is nearly free driving if only used for short trips

Here in Texas with federal, state, and Nissan incentives, the base 2015 Leaf comes in at $15,500+TTL which would makes this much less of a dilemma. LOL

One outstanding advantage of a PHEV over EV's - at least in CARB states, is that the hybrid system (which includes the traction pack) has a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty. EV warranties are all over the map and generally underwhelming. Nissan's Leaf pack was so un-robust in hot climates that many suffered from premature range lost ... leading to many folks opting out of the class action. Supposedly an agreement has been ironed out in a favorable manner for both types of potential plaintiffs. I'm surprised the Leaf didn't suffer a bigger sales loss over the whole thing.

I think the addition of the Lizard Pack eased people's fears. Combined with the fact that they were the only game in town that wasn't a rare compliance car made it easier.

At short term, "Eyeing" for the Volt 2.0 sale release; long term any used Tesla.

I'm thinking it makes sense to start charting the 'completed' prices for various used plug-ins but for me it is a regional market. Once I've got a sense of the fair-market price, I can be ready to 'snipe' something.

Anyone noticed that statement.... "That would roughly double the current Leaf’s battery range"

Wait, Nissan is still quoting 100 miles range on the current Leaf? So we are talking about a real-world 150 miles car that was rumored last year then.

Yes, one can get 100 miles out of a LEAF's charge. Ken, whose commute includes a stretch up I-295 does it--in the winter.

I was doing similar numbers before I bought my 2015 Leaf last month.

I ended up with an SV with LED Quick Charge package. MSRP $34,580, sale price ~$27,380 (with Nissan VPP + $3500 Nissan rebate), OTD ~$30,200, with 0% APR for 72 months (along with free L2 charger). If you include the $7500 federal tax credit and $2500 California tax rebate, that's a sale price of about $18,400, or OTD of $20,200 for a new well equipped electric vehicle. I couldn't resist with those incentives.

I had done similar calculations for the Volt at the time, but due to higher Volt pricing and non-zero APR, the Volt would have cost about $4k more (I would have purchased Base with Safety 1). Not to mention PHEV in CA only gets $1500 tax rebate, so the current Volt would have cost me about $5k more than the Leaf.

Yes, second gen will be better, but I have what I want today, and it's likely interest rates will go up in 2-3 years, plus there won't be incentives on next gen models for quite some time, so I estimated it would have cost quite a bit more.

The (EV) car makers need to learn how to not "Osborne" their products.

You can, but for most Leaf owners, not very probable. Most are averaging 75-80 on a 100% charge.

Wonder what Ken did? He probably drives like a Prius, and with A/C off. That is not very comfortable to get to the manufacturers unicorn numbers, which EPA rating is only 84 miles.

In the case of my Rav4EV, we drive it like any regular car. It is EPA rated at 102 miles range (which Toyota also claims), but gets 110 miles on 80% charge, and 130 miles on full charge. With careful/extreme driving, people gets 170+ miles. And this is the step-child car that Toyota hates.
