It may not be practical for you but what we did was keep our paid off light towing capable car (3500# max towing 20mpg) and we bought 2 v. We are saving between them both about $400 a month in gas alone. I bet that 29er is a blast. There are days I miss a trailer sailor.

I really don't think a v is a good fit to tow period. My hitch on the v will be used for bikes or cargo rack only.

I'm thinking about this as we are discussing… my wife has a Yaris that she loves, and that we could sell… I guess… I just have to convince her now. :D

Fire on water! It's a very exciting little skiff: 29er

Thanks! My son will be enjoying it all summer at the Camp Trois-Saumons, where he is a counselor, working his way to become a sailing instructor… I have to work… :(

It looks that like fun. I raced small catamarans back in college and now only crew on the racing scene. I prefer to cruise these days.

Awesome for your son. There is a living there especially if coupled with a delivery captain.

Good luck with the wife. Hopefully she will be intrigued by the technology to consider it. W

The load isn't so much on the roof as it is on the door frame. All of my past roof racks have essentially clamped on the frame, not the roof. I think it is probably hogwash that you can't do a roof rack on an ATP v Five.

I hope it's hogwash. We are about to buy a V with ATP and it absolutely requires us to fit a rack to the roof for a cargo box. Can anyone confirm?

    I think so too…

However, it would be nice to have official confirmation from Toyota.

Since a factory roof rack is not available as an option on any V, as far as I can tell, that may be the reason for saying that you can't put on an aftermarket. And NO ONE from Toyota will endorse an aftermarket product, ever.

Customer reps at Thule and Yakima say yes, no problem with the glass roof.

After further inspection, Thule's website makes you choose between regular roof and glass roof when fitting the vehicle. So, must be ok.

Unless it's a salesman. They'll usually tell you ANYTHING they think you want to hear.
