Well I guess I should have though about this sooner but there is no time like the present. The 2017 Touring did not come with spare and it looks like that's going to be a real problem ! The road construction in my area is causing damage to low profile tires. The side walls are too weak and will not hold up to all the pot holes. I have a friend that just had two of her's damaged at the same time. Can you say flat bed tow truck ! So I have started looking for a spare to fit my 4 Touring . Called the dealership and was told that they don't make spares that will fit my model. But if I want to buy a full size rim for my car it will cost me $475.00 then add another $160.00 for a tire to go on it. Not to mention the fact that I will have NO room in the back at all carrying that around with me all the time! He also informed me that if I buy a rim from a junkyard it has to be off a newer model Prius. Something to do with the breaking mechanism and the way it fits.Wondering if he was blowing smoke under my back side! So what are you guys doing about the spare tire problem? Anything ?

Be sure to see the threads where folks have modified the back to add compact spare.
Full sized spare is whole 'nother thing, but maybe fits.

Your version still has the indent stamped in the metal for the spare, so its just a matter of cutting a hole for it. Possibly a wreck on ebay could get you a cheap rear insert with a spare tire hole in there/

You did not enter it in your Profile, but you must have a 4 Touring.
Order a spare for the 3 Touring. I think it is the same one as the 2 & 3. You need to figure out how to stow it and anchor it down though.

I had a pothole induced sidewall cut in my Energi that the tire goop/air compressor solution could not fix. I keep a spare in the garage and had my wife bring it to me. I couldn't find a matching tire locally so had to order on line which took over a week. Glad I had that spare. I only take it on long road trips so storage isn't really an issue.

I think all levels of 4th Gen, and the Prime, at least have the jack and lug nut wrench?

You can probably get a 15" corolla steel rim (part number: 42611-02471) for under $100. That's what I use on my 3rd gen with snows. Then get a cheap tire, say a Bridgestone Ecopia EP20 in 195/65R15, mounted (regular valve, non-TPMS), for around another $100. This will work as a spare, regardless if your OEM wheels are 17".

Yup, but as you say: here we are. It sucks. If I was in the States, level 4's would be off-the-table. No spare? No sale.

Not sure. Do the 2 and 3 have 17 inch rims ?

In reference to the 2017 Prime. Somebody squeezed their I phone in a opening around the rear seat. It seems that the trunk floor is not the trunk floor. He mentioned a large space, empty, the width of the car. He inferred there is enough space for a spare tire, etc But I would not be so bold as to experiment by cutting a hole. This OP also said that space may be for HV battery cooling ?????

Not sure but I don't think that will work. My car has 17 inch wheels and was told that only a Prius newer rim will work on the model because of the breaking system. The whole thing makes me sick ! Wish I had paid attention to this before buying. :( SMH

Compact Spare for Two Eco | PriusChat

So that link (above) is the "discovery" thread.
@krousdb was the first to discover the stamped metal space for the spare in the 2016 Gen2 eco.

I assume still the same for 2017 and 2018 (but don't take my word for it).

    Not a good assumption.
If I had any indent on my trunk floor it would have given me pause for thought.

Assuming, you are right, how do I remove the foam without destroying the foam and trunk configuration ?

3 Touring has 17" wheels and a Spare. 4 touring has 17" wheels and no spare. the 15" & 15" wheels have about the same external diameter. I believe the spare for 3T is a 15" one just like the one on the 2 & 3.

How does the lack of open spare tire well in the Prime apply to a Gen 4 thread? It is a different car!

    On the Prime, you don't!

If you mean Gen 4, I found this using the link in post 8.

I have been speaking of the prime, only. Sorry, the question was directed to W.J.Tracy. He said “I Assume
the Prime 2017, 2018 are the same” PLEASE, we cannot use assumptions.
