Having driven a Ford for many years, I've taken for granted the zipper case which holds the manual & various other important info (insurance, AAA card, etc.)

Doesn't Toyota provide one with their cars?

They don't seem to come with the car, but my dealer had some.

When I bought my first prius, about a year and a half ago, I didn't get one. However, when we bought my wife's Prius 8 months later, the salesman handed us one. I mentioned that my other Prius didn't come with one and he handed me another.

That's good news..I still have my old Ford zipper case from a car I got 7 years ago. That was the only thing I liked about that Ford, and it's all I have left!

Alas, the Toyota manual does not fit in. :(

Where are you keeping your manual & important papers now?

You can always go ask your dealer. mine didn't come with it, but someone had started a huge post about it (back in march), and how some people were getting them and some weren't. i headed back to the dealer and told my salesman that iw as reading online that all the other owners were getting them... she imediately went to one of the cars on the show room floor and pulled one out for me.

Mine came with the car. Maybe they have discontinued giving them with each new car.

I got a vinyl foldy holder, which is enough for the manuals, insurance info and important documents.

Yep. I bought two of these when they were on sale.

I keep all of the manuals and stuff in one.

The other I made into a first aid kit.

I keep both in the lower glove box. The manual one fits great in the slot in the back. The first aid kit is in the bottom of the box. Still room for a swiffer duster and other stuff.

Based on what I found in used Toyotas on the dealers' lots, it appears that around 2004, Toyota stopped including the owner's manual zipper case in any of their cars. This includes the highest priced offerings, as well as the lowest. I couldn't find a single zipper case in any MY05 or newer Toyota.

I don't quite understand it but maybe it was some corporate maven's brilliant idea of saving money on every car in a way that's not readily apparent or noticed by most people. If the cost was maybe $2/ea, spread out over 420,000 cars sold annually would be a lot of money. Instead of throwing them in at the factory, they probably now make the dealerships buy the zipper cases separately and most dealers don't bother with it.

It sure seems cheap that Toyota doesn't include a zipper case like everyone else (except Honda) and I sure noticed the absence of any kind of owner's manual folder. You'd think that they'd have one for the most expensive cars but I don't think that even Lexus cars get the zipper case, anymore (!).

I did notice that Scion cars get a zipper case.

I haven't seen anything like that but it sounds kind of, well, non-durable.

Still, it's better than a cardboard holder or nothing at all - loose manual, brochures, paper, instructions, etc. in the glove compartment.

It's baffling how one could spend a good hunk of change on a class car only to be short-changed on such a small thing.

Has Toyota cut any other corners, big or small, in the production/sale of the Prius in the last few years? Inquiring minds want to know. <_<

From that big thread back in March on this- seems it is up to each Dealer to provide whatever they want to provide for manuals. Some are just plastic folders, some zippered cases, some nothing- it was quite a range.....

Some were even using Daytimer/Franklin planner/other book cases- guess they had to measure.

The sales guy, on our "walk-through" on delivery, showed me the nifty slot in the back of the bottom glove box... :D

I went to their site & this item is advertised as vinyl. Is yours really leather?

Either way, do you recall the shipping costs? I can't find any FAQs on their site.

We are pretty sure the one I got from the dealer is vinyl--VERY nice vinyl and nicely padded, but still vinyl...and it LOOKS identical to the pics above.

I bought a 2005 Prius in Febuary 2005 at Newark Toyotaworld in Delaware and it came with the nice zipper case. I bought another Prius in January 2006 at the same dealer and it came with a zipper case. I know 3 other people at work who bought 2006 Priusii and they all got zipper cases. Must be the dealer who chooses to put it in the car?

Maybe it is vinyl...if they say on the website that it is, then it must be. My mistake!
The total cost for the case + shipping/handling was $14.94.

I realize I never replied to this post! My bad.

Thanks so much, Rancid13. I finally ordered from the site you mentioned. Perhaps others who also were short-changed in this area will similarly benefit from your information.

BTW, I'm quite pleased with the case - just disappointed with the dealer who did not provide it. :(

I don't really care, but my wife and I laughed about it. The Fords I have owned over that last decade plus all had ziper cases. My 2005 Chrysler's is not a zipper case, but at least a leather(like?) oversized trifold wallet that holds everything. Even my Hyundai had a respectable case for the manuals, registration and other documents. In fact, since the Hyundai was totalled and was allowed to "clean it out" I kept that case. So I have a Hyundai case holding documents in the glovebox of my Prius.
