Just had an oil change on my Subaru Outback (5 quarts with a filter).

My small town garage did the job, as they have done several times. The Outback takes five quarts with a new filter. Looked at the receipt saw the standard $70 charge, the Napa Gold Filter and 4.5 quarts of 0w-20 synthetic

Half a quart short. No big deal, when I used to change oil on my G2 Prius I often filled it about half-quart short or so, because the G2 took some odd amount, like 3.75 quarts or something and to fill it to 3.5 was much easier.

My question is I wonder if they are now putting in 4.5 quarts to keep the cost down and not have to raise prices.

I will ask them next time I go in,but curious.

I check my oil every month. Have never needed a drop.

Or they simply looked at the wrong engine spec. The 2.5L in my Outback is 4.5 fill for a change.
