Following the analysis reported in the National Review last week the NY Times has done its own analysis of the NHTSA complaints with a different tack.

Many Accident Claims Cite Air Bags

The biggest complaint? Air bags. They were cited in more than half the claims that the six largest automakers in the United States reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration since 2003, when the agency began collecting the information. By contrast, speed control was listed as a factor in 3 percent of the claims, the analysis of the claims by The New York Times shows.
