Bought car new 2010 and took in for all maintenance. About a yr ago around 33k, noticed VERY faint horn sound when turning, left turns, might be on some rights also. It is always from a dead stop with no great acceleration on quiet roads with no other cars around, and no CDs or radio playing so easy to hear. Not loud horn, very faint.

Happens only occasionally, like maybe every 50 to 100 turns.

Scary when I think I've pulled out in front of someone, tho KNOW I didn't see anyone coming either way.

Car has about 42k miles on it.

Anyone else with this noise and what did you do about it?

    Thanks

With a Prius, and many other small cars too, how can you tell the difference between a "very faint horn" sound and a simple body or suspension squeak ? ;)
You don't have a dog's squeaky chew toy rolling around in the trunk, do you ??

    Thanks.

Once in a blue moon, every month or so I hear it. Sounds more like a horn than a squeak that might need oil. i'm past the doggy, kids or toys stage.

I get a similar sound when accelerating (slowly) between 15-20 mph, but it sounds more like a vibrating piece of thin metal, possibly a heat shield. I only hear it when accelerating, not when coasting down in speed, and always around 15-20 mph. I'm thinking the metal reaches it's resonance frequency, vibrates audibly, and then stops as I continue to accelerate. I'm not too concerned about it, so I'll wait until Spring before I investigate further.

Could be a metal vibration doing a good horn imitation. It might be only on slight accelerations now that I think about it, not deceleration, on low speeds.

Do you hear it on turns?

I haven't noticed it on turns, only when accelerating, although it might make the noise if I accelerate through a turn, but I can't say I've heard it.
