Honestly...it's hard for me to get excited about any of these BEVs when people can pick up a Prius Prime for so cheap. I know the battery cost is the issue, but disappointing nonetheless. Yes..I know the Prime is a PHEV...(y)

If you think these are expensive:

Ski Nautique GS22, ICE version, starts at $129,909
Ski Nautique GS22e, electric, starts at $292,711

$163k for the electric "upgrade" (124kWh battery)

Many of these seem to be following Tesla's plan by making these BEVs a higher, more luxurious grade of car. You can get reclining front seats with foot rests in the Ioniq 5 for example. That lets cover the battery price in the profits from such features, like Toyota did with the hybrid system and AWD on the Rav4.

They also get larger state and federal incentives, which means they can price them higher than a Prius Prime. When the new federal incentive went into effect, GM cut their incentives on the Bolt, increasing the dealer advertised price by at least $5000.

Totally agree. We ain't going to get an 'electric car revolution' until the average joe can afford one.

The VW ID.4 is the closest so far - 250 mile range, $39,990 before federal and state incentives/credits and in the compact SUV format that the average Joe/Jane family wants.

There will be a price drop some time next year once the Chattanooga plant goes online and starts producing ID.4s locally for the US/Canadian market.

Yep, I forgot about the ID.4...probably because Sandy Munroe hated it...haha. (y) Indeed...the ID.4 is pretty much the only one that comes close to 'average Joe affordability'. If the ID.4 sells well, others will be forced to follow. Still...40K is still not at the 'economy car' level..so I'm still skeptical.

Incentives are likely inflating the price at this point.

The Chevy site is advertising $31k to $33k for the 2022 Bolt, and it doesn't appear to be including the federal credit.

GM has no credits so the Bolt is priced as such. I presume there may be some discounts later in the year.

New incentives are being discussed. I was thinking some actually passed, as the discounts on the Bolt decreased last month.

Battery costs are now a fraction of what they were when the Leaf and Volt came out. With expanding charging infrastructure, and increasing acceptance of EVs, shorter range options will arrive with even lower price tags.

At any rate...I'm glad to see something other than Tesla get some love ( most notably the Mustang Mach-E and the Hyundai EVs ).

Looking forward to Sandy Munro getting his hands on the Ioniq 5. Check out his "Munro Live" YouTube channel. He was really impressed recently with the Mach-E.

There's a typo on their website - the First Edition should have 313hp/446lb-ft powertrain and not 513hp.
