I never thought I could do it, but after reading a bunch of posts here with people bragging about getting MPG in the 60s, I was determined to do it. And I did! 62 mpg average in the city on my daily 28 mile commute - entirely surface streeets, no freeway, moderate traffic. I mastered P&G, watch for lights to know as early as possible if I could or couldn't make the light and that's about it. I had A/C on the entire time at 78F and Low fan. I also had a 170 lb passenger. I didn't slow anyone down, I didn't make any one angry, I kept up with the 45 to 35 speed limits and still did it. I'm very excited, as you can imagine. My best before this one was in the mid 50s.
Now, I'm aiming for 65 mpg. I know I could do 70, but that would take some sacrifice and it's not worth it. I'd do it once just so I know I've done it, but being in the 60 to 65 zone makes me very happy.
I now can go into "black mode" without even looking at the screen. At first it was very hard, but then it became very easy and now it's second nature.

If I can do it, you can do it!

I got 92 mpg on the way to work once.

    ...

But it's mostly downhill. Going home it went back to my regular 47 or so.

haha, that's cheating! I've gotten 99 mpg average over 20 miles going down hill, having reset the meter at the top of the mountain.

Congrats in breaking the 60 MPG barrier. It's very exciting (I did it on my last tank). Good luck for your aim at 65 :)

    Congrats!

I'm presently en route to a 60mpg+ tank as well. I have four bars left and I'm sitting at 62 even on the MFD. I recently changed my route, which I am averaging 66-76mpg, so I feel confident I can increase the MPG even more over the last four bars.

I agree with you about the 70MPG threshold. When I pull a 70-76mpg trip it is either because nobody is behind me, or because I make great effort to maximize every glide opportunity. If there are other cars around I typically stay within the posted speed limits during my P&G phases.
