Did an oil change on 08 Prius , mobile 1 oil wix filer. upon filling it with oil he top line slightly . i drained some oil and the fill level came down half way. I refilled a drop of oil and it was over again... at this point i drained the oil and took the filter off.... the dang car said it was full of oil still.. top notch on stick

let the car sit for some time checked oil.. with no plug or filter .. said displayed it was still full.

at this point i poured more oil in and it raised the oil level even further up the stick.

It’s ok if it’s over the full line a little. Normally takes exactly 3.9 quarts with new oil filter. I routinely ran my 07 with four quarts and at 175000 miles still did not eat any oil.

It sounds like you're not wiping the dipstick after removing and redipping?

You're not going to get a reliable reading if the dipstick is not clean, to begin with.

Look on both sides of the dipstick, go with the mark that measures lower on the reading. That should be accurate
