In March of this year I performed my first DIY oil change on our 2017 Prius V. This is not a 5th Gen so don't go there. When I got under the car I found that cover to be missing. Up until that point the car had always been serviced by the dealer.

Last weekend I performed a DIY oil change on our 2023 5th Gen and guess what? That cover panel wasn't there either.

Should I make an effort to replace these or just let it go?

So it's got a few "professional" oil changes under it's belt? You're first owner?

First owner of the 2017 Prius V. Regular dealer service.

Second owner on the 2023 Gen 5. CarFax indicates that it had oil changes at 10k intervals.

Getting back to my original question, should I replace these covers or just let it go?

How perfect of condition do you like to keep your cars in? And how much are you willing to spend to do so?

Is it going to hurt your car to not have the covers? Almost certainly not. Are you going to lose just a little bit of efficiency? Yes, but the actual monetary difference will probably never add up to the cost of replacing the cover. (Especially in the case of the Prius v.)

But if you find value in keeping your car in as perfect condition as reasonably possible, then it might be worth it. It's going to be totally up to you.

The 2023 is pretty straightforward. I assume the only panel missing is the small one that covers the oil drain and filter. I also assume there's no damage to the main under cover. If so, these are the parts you would need. The clips listed are what the screws thread into. If your car still has them, you wouldn't need to replace them unless they're stripped out. But they're cheap enough you might want to replace them anyway just in case. Your call.

    51447-47040 - Cover, Engine Under, No.4 Center
    90159-60477 - Screw, W/Washer Tapping x4 (if missing)
    90467-05176 - Clip x4 (if missing)

If you pick your dealership carefully and wait until Labor Day for the 20% off sale, you could get the whole thing for $42; $34 for the cover and $8 for all the screws and clips. Though you'd have to add a few more things to qualify for free shipping. Maybe a set or two of wiper inserts, or some oil and filters. It would be a good time to stock up. Look for a dealer with 31% off MSRP.

The 2017 Prius v is a much worse issue. That car didn't come with a separate panel over the drain and filter. It's actually one giant panel with a smaller section that bends out of the way. What probably happened is that the panel was bent so many times that it eventually cracked and tore away. If you do want to replace it, this is what you're looking at. (I'm assuming all the screws and clips are intact except for the one panel.)

51410-12105 - Cover Assy, Engine Under, No.1 (I think it comes with the clips you'd need, but I might be wrong.)

You're looking at $155, best price during sale.
