In John1701a's oil change instruction he advised to wet the O-ring of the new oil filter to help seal it well. However the filter I got from the dealer already has grease on the O-ring. In this case is it still necessary to wet the O-ring with oil before installing?

I do not bother, since as you pointed out the gasket already has lube applied.

Remember what Jamie's motto is from MythBusters: "If in doubt, lube it."

In this case... If it's pre-greased, it's fine already. If it's dry, a little oil will do the trick.
