I normally put in the whole 4 quart or oil in my prius. Should i really just put 3.5? Also the tire shop rotate my tires and evertime they keep adjusting my tire psi to 35 but on the forums i see that you guys adjust them to 40 ish. what should i do?

Use the search function feature here on Prius Chat, these topics have been discussed very extensively.

Do whatever increases your enjoyment of the car. If you want better mpg then inflate the tires, slow down, and don't run the ac as much. If a bit of extra oil bothers you then remove it or don't put it all in. I recommend the Google search function.

I changed my oil & filter at 1000 miles. I put in 3 quarts and 20 ozs. This brought it exactly to the full mark after runnig the engine for 16 miles. I allowed 15 minutes for the oil to drain down and checked the level. dead on the full mark.

3.5 on the oil, 42/40 on the tires.

Oil companies put more than 1 Qt of oil in their bottles. Measure the oil in a measuring cup and you'll find that 4 Qts will get you to 1/4 inch below the "max" on the dipstick.

Get hold of a dymo labeler and attach this label to the door jamb adjacent to the tyre placard: -
Front tyres 42psi Rear tyres 40psi Don't argue just do it, OK!
I like to fill the oil to the full line. Use slipery oil.

you DO know that you only need to change your oil every 5000 miles right? Changing it at 1000 miles is alot of wasted oil!!

Three US quart bottles is plenty. There's no need to top off; it only creates a partly-empty bottle to sit around and make a mess and slowly oxidize.

I think the poster was talking about his/her first oil change only at 1000 miles, not doing it every 1000 miles. I've read elsewhere on this board of members doing their first oil and filter change at 1000 miles, as a sort of flush of the initial (and presumably greater) crap the engine generates during its early miles. I did too, in part because of this reasoning, and in part because I wanted to get Mobil 1 into the system.
