Only 33 mpg @ about 76 mph?

It should be anywhere in the 30 MPG range depending on wind and driving conditions. MPG will always have a sharp decline the faster you go past 60 MPH.

 

That's ridiculous; I got 46.5 mpg when I rented a 2005 Prius and did all highway driving at 80 mph. It gets around 50+ mpg at 70 mph. This was in warm San Diego with no A/C.

 

I average 65-68 MPH on the freeway. 50+ MPG. Of course, that depends on terrain. Flat or downhill and it is the best. Prolonged uphill and your MPG will suffer.

 

I averaged 47.2mpg on my first tank. About 400 of that was at 70mph on the freeway, a pair of three-hour trips, almost all at 70.

and for what it is worth, 33MPG is what my beetle would get at its best under ideal conditions... (like driving around the EPA test track ) So at this point anthing abovw what i get in my beetle would make me happy, twice the car and better MPG? I wont complain...

 

I get avg mid 40's at 75 mph. Once averaged 80 for a long stretch and got 46mpg but that was with a tailwind. Love this car!

 

I drove from Dallas to Lubbock days after purchasing my prius and got 45mpg. I was going 75 the whole way.

At 75 mph I get low to mid 40's of mpg. Yesterday I drove to Osoyoos and back. I was going around 55 mph going and around 65 mph returning (I took a circle route, minor roads there, highway back) and averaged 50 mpg. The route included a couple of minor mountain passes and a lot of rolling hills. (Really low mpg numbers going uphill, really high numbers going downhill.)

33 mpg would require short drives and/or bitterly-cold temperatures. In North Dakota, with 20 degrees below zero, a five-minute warm-up before driving, and a ten-minute commute that barely let the car get warm, I got around 30 mpg.

Same- my first tank I drove 75 mph and got 52 mpg

 

I had to make a very fast 2-hour drive to get to a meeting. Most of the driving in my 2004 Prius was at 90 with a few dips to 80. No A/C and flat roads in Florida. My average for the trip was 43 going down. Coming back i ran about 75 and the MPG went up to 46.

 

I get about 40 MPG @ 80mph..............

I'm going to assume this is an April Fools joke.

Over this past 2 years and 30,000 miles I've never averaged less than 47 mpg on the freeways around here, and my average freeway speed has been around 73 mph (65 to 80). I've never talked to any Prius driver who has seen miles per gallon outside the 40s and 50s at any time on any given tank of gasoline.

I have heard, though, that there are people who drive in bitter winter temperatures areas (below 0 degrees F) that have seen mileages in the 30s, so I won't say it's out of the question. I should also point out that our Winter temperatures usually don't get below 10 degrees F and are typically between 20 and 40 degrees).

 

I made 2 trips from OC to Santa Barbara and back this weekend. 240 miles round trip each time, all freeway travelling minus about 1/2 mile to get to and from the freeway. Went over the Sepulveda pass and the Conejo Pass going and coming. Averaged between 70-85 mph the entire way, almost no cruise control (too much traffic to safely use it). Got 47.8 mpg on the first round trip, 47.5 on the 2nd. I refueled before each trip and reset the consumption screen each time.

Travelled ~350 miles to San Jose from OC a couple weeks ago. Speed limit on the 5 fwy after the 'Grapevine Pass' was 70 mph. I had cruise control set at 75 mph almost the entire way. Average speed of other drivers seemed to be 80-90. Upon reaching our destination, I had gotten ~45 mpg for the trip up. Took the coastal route home (from Santa Cruz south on CA-1 and 101 thru Santa Barbara to OC) and averaged ~48 mpg. (I was getting over 50 mpg until we hit Monterey and the windy twisty coastal road with a speed limit of 50 turned into a straight highway with a speed limit of 65. Mpgs went down from there on.)

Am heading for Mammoth with my husband later today, almost 400 miles one way. Will likely be travelling ~75 mph the whole way. We'll see how the Prius does in serious mountain driving.

 

at 80 mph, I get around 45, depending on weather wind, but the lowest i've gotten at 80 is 41. I live in southern cali.
