So past week Toyota Japan announced mass recall for 2003 and 2004 Prius
Its 2 recalls but depend on when the car is build

    Toyota Recall Page

Solution: Reflash computer and install new program

This is recall effec to for build date start August 1st 2003 to October 13th 204

    2) there are times when the moisture comes in contact with the terminal of the rotary sensor connector for the generator inside the trance axle, as fail-safe function working with resistance change, the warning light lights up, there are times when it becomes travelling by only electoric motor.

    Solution: Grease connector

No, it is not a recall.
It is a special service campaign.

Please understand the difference between recall and service campaign.

 There are substantial errors in the initial post here:

Take a look at the thread entitled:

The Official Prius SSC50P Campaign Doc

which will provide accurate information. The SSC is for 2004 and some 2005 Prii with certain VIN ranges which can be found in the above referenced posting in a 47-page downloadable .pdf document.

Yes. Any car manufactured after the dates in the SSC/Recall are automatically OK.

Okay, at this point there are like 5 parallel threads on this same topic...

and I've already confused myself as to which one I'd posted in previously,
and fired a followup into a different one. I suggest we pick ONE of
the above to continue discussion, and let the others terminate here.
How about the first of these, entitled "The Official Prius SSC50P
Campaign Doc", which seems to have the most hard info about it?

The word recall is only a directory name, then you can see the word campaign.

In Japan, it is also the service campaign and the RECALL is completely listed on other category.

Service campaign or recall, let's face it the work will be done (at least by those of us who choose to take our cars in when we get the letter) and the cars will be just fine. Recalls aren't the end of the world. Things would be a lot worse in motoring in general if manufacturers allowed issues to persist and were not required by a governing agency or the customer base to solve any problems that come up.

Consider, most service campaigns and recalls are based upon the fact that real world usage is usually the only thing that exposes a problem which is either impossible or impractical to test for in the engineering and test stages of vehicle development.

I hope others see the SSC effort Toyota is putting forth in a positive light and not a negative one. I certainly don't see this as a negative development, only an inconvenience.

I had 50,000 miles on my car when it had the stalling problem. I thought mine would not be one that stalled, but it did. No problem though, I just pulled over , turned the car off and then restarted and went on my way. I woudln't have known to do that, except for this great forum.
