Hey! I was wondering (I'm a new owner,3 days old, of an '06 Prius w/package #7) if you run out of gas does your car still run with the electric engine?? If so, how long can you go for?

Hi TeePee06, welcome to PriusChat. The short answer is yes, it will run on battery at low speed to get safely off the road, don't try to drive too far as you can severely damage the High Voltage battery. This is a qustion that has come up many time. The Search button at the top of every page is your friend! Do a search for out of gas and you can read member's first hand experiences.

Also, there's a special forum for new Prius owners. Click on the PriusChat text above where messages start to see all the forums. Posting in the right forum helps people find your post and respond. The sticky threads at the top of many forums contain a lot of answers to FAQs.

Have fun with your great new car!

And the 2nd part of the short answer is that when the last gas blip flashes at you, it means 'GET GAS NOW".

Do not make the mistake many before you have made of looking at the miles driven and your mileage and trying to outsmart the gas gauge. Many have tried and many have been proven wrong...
