I know there are several threads like this but as of yet I have not found a solution so here goes with my problem. No unusual circumstances. Car drove home fine and was parked in its normal spot. The next morning I went to the car to leave and it wouldn't start, given the p lock malfunction when parking, park on a flat surface and apply parking brake securely message with a yellow triangle on the left with an exclamation point inside. After all the googling in the world I've tried opening and closing the door a hundred times, pressing and releasing the parking break and break and removing the negative cable from the battery. All while holding my tounge in the proper position..yeah I'm an idiot. During all of this I would never get the green ready light on the power button. Anyway...ive checked all of the 7.5 fuses I have and bought a new battery making sure they tested it before I brought it home. Installed the new battery. After installing the new battery and putting my foot firmly on the break pedal I finally got the green ready light on the power button. SUCCESS!!!!! NOT!!!!! After waiting for the whirly noise to stop I pressed the power button and boom...there's the error message still and still can't do anything. My next plan of action is an untimely fire...just kidding mister police man. I'm at my wit's end and this is causing some serious stress for me and the wife getting to and from work. Can somebody please help???

I vaguely remember a post about a sensor, behind the brake pedal, that if broken, or misaligned, prevents the vehicle from exiting Park? Would that apply in this scenario?

you put your foot on the brake and pressed the power button and got the green light. you waited for the whirly noises to stop, (i don't know why) and you pressed the power button again? that would shut it down. you should have tried putting it in gear.
perhaps your battery connections are loose, especially the negative to body. check the while testing your voltage as friendly suggests above.^^^

    12.8 on two tests

No...sorry if that was confusing... Power button was pushed once after getting the green ready light. Also I've had this car since it was brand new (2012). I've never had an issue starting the car...

OK, just checking. once i was sold a "brand new" battery that failed a load test at home. I would still load test it to make sure. other than that, i don't have any further suggestions. maybe someone smarter will help you.

Yeah a read several posts about that..its why I had the new one tested first. I'm not sure how to do a load test....I don't have any special testing equipment...so if there is something I can do with special equipment I'm all ears....thanks for helping

Just put your Prius in acc mode (2 presses of the power without stepping on the brake) and turn on the lights. The 12v should not drop more than a few tenths of a volt (stay above 12v).

Places selling batteries (including where you bought?) will have pro-quality electronic load testers. I got a consumer level tester, the Solar BA5, works well. They're a bit pricey though, around $70.

My buddy just came over with his tester and tested it for me...he says everything looked like it should (didn't dropped much at all). Funny thing is now he's scratching his head too

Yes...it's tight as well...we just completely disconnected the battery and rechecked the connections to ensure there wasn't some debris or something on them...nothing. Car still won't do anything but repeatedly tell me to put it park, which I would love to do so I can be done with this

Does the dashboad indicate that a door is open? An open door (or a failed door switch) can cause a symptom similar to yours.

OP, if you search around here, you'll find blown fuses can give this symptom.
