Hello everyone. Been browsing thread in the past anytime I've had issues with my 2004 Prius and I've been amazed at the helpfulness of everyone.

Yesterday my Prius kicked on a check engine light, red triangle and a check engine on my dash display.
Took it to an orileys auto parts store and came up with a code p0a83.

The plastic under the front bumper (under car) got damaged a while back, and I've had it tied up to keep it from catching debris and acting like a scoop. Well it came loose and it scraped the ground and sucked up some sand/gravel.
Later that day it started throwing that code.
Is it possible that a battery cooing vent is clogged up?
Or a module going out ?

    Welcome to PriusChat!!
Never heard of that OBD2 code (DTC P0A83) before, can you try scanning with another OBD2 scanner. Was it DTC P0A93 ?
Quite possible, especially if it hasn't been cleaned or if you travel with furries, hippies or other long hairs in the vehicle. The Intake for the HV battery fan is in the backseat near the passenger side right shoulder/hip area, do you hear the fan in the back running all the time?
You would get a code for that, assuming the OBD2 code reader/scanner being used is fully compatible with a toyota hybrid.

How many miles are on that 18 year old HV battery?

Here is the workup for DTC P0A82 : https://share.qclt.com/%E4%B8%B0%E7%94%B0%E6%99%AE%E7%91%9E%E6%96%AF%E5%8E%9F%E5%8E%82%E8%8B%B1%E6%96%87%E6%89%8B%E5%86%8CPDF%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F/Repair%20Manual/04pruisr/05/20zmw/cip0a82.pdf

    Thanks for the info!
Car just rolled past 260k. Been a reliable vehicle. Tune up last year and a new water pump.
I'll dig into the trunk and see what the fan is doing and do some investigation.
I'll check for corrosian. I haven't cleaned or checked in there since I bought it 6 years ago

That looks like a connector at the right rear wheel well inside the car- so it's the "infamous" corroded battery fan connector. If fixing that restores proper operation then great!

Then you can clean and reseal the body seam cracks around the top of the tailgate that let water in that caused that corrosion.
