Just got an e-mail from Palm that I need an update for my PDA to adjust for DST being earlier than before...the e-mail came today...2 days AFTER DST started!?

Anyway, if your palm needs an update here's the link...

Well, at least their notice to me was on Saturday before the change, but after I had already taken the initiative to go their site and download the update patch. Having said that, the update seems to be working fine. No problems syncing appointments with either computer I routinely use.

I received the e mail on Friday but had already downloaded the patch. I have been busy patching pc's all week getting ready for the new DST change. Out of 350 machines, I had 3 that did not update. Discovered that those 3 do not have XP SP2 installed. Not bad for a mini Y2K :D

Strange is it was announced on their website somewhere around two weeks before the email (somewhere in late Feb), badly publicized, still late to the table, and only really covers recent model Palms (my poor Sonys).

Go Palm! Showing us you're really going to be around that much longer. :p

I agree with your sentiment, though I really hope they are around much longer. It's one of my now-infrequent opportunities to support a computer product that offers all of these: functionality, stability, and a non-Windows platform.

Maybe a stupid question, but why would I need to put the patch on my Palm? I am using a calandar only and all the calendar dates are fine. The clock is off but that doesn't impact anything. Am I missing something?

If you don't schedule appointments with times, I don't think it will cause you any problem. The patch is easy to install, though, and it won't hurt to install it to make sure. It's at www.palm.com.

thanks, I didn't want to mess with the patch as I am not using Palm conduits and who knows what the patch will do, so I was trying to avoid that.
So if I have appointments with times how is that going to mess things up?
For example, I have a dentist appointment at 9am tomorrow, it doesn't show it at 8am. It's still showing at 9pm. 9 is still 9 on the calendar no matter what the clock is set to. So, I guess I don't get it.

And wrong after October, so wrong twice every year from here on out.

You could just copy the update.prc to a SD card and transfer it over that way if you're not using the normal conduits. Not sure why anybody wouldn't want to back up the information to a PC. I've been through many data losses over the years, and the sync backups always saved my nice person.

The patch will change the DST settings if it can, otherwise it won't. I've tried on older OS4 and Sony OS pdas and it just complains it can't find the files it needs to update. After you're done, you can delete the patch.

Otherwise, it'll be just like most VCRs; who cares about the time.

Sorry, since you said you don't use the Palm conduits, and you never said you synced any other way, it was easy for me to read it as you don't back up to PC. Is there any way without the conduits besides maybe backup buddy?

I know lots of people that don't bother, and the new NVram gives more reason not to bother.

I don't use the palm conduits, either. I use PDA connect from Novell. Allows me to sync my palm with my Groupwise account. SOme of my administrators prefer Intellisync. If you are not in a windows environment and you do not use outlook, you need a different set of conduits to sync
