On my Gen II -- whenever I the car is on and I turn the headlight switch over one click, nothing happens in the front. No parking lights come on. Is that normal? Are they both burned out? It appears the turn signals still function...

i turn mine two clics and nothing happens. the parking lites come on on the third click and the headlites on the fourth. do you have auto lites? could be tied to the sensor.

On my 2006 with HIDs: one click, parking lights; two clicks, headlights.

U.S. models of the Gen II were not available with automatic headlights.

Whatchu talkin bout Willis?? There are only 2 clicks on the Gen II Prius. 1. Parking Lights 2. Headlights

But as the OP stated the parking lights are useless. I never use them. But no they’re not burnt out.

Huh. So just so I understand correctly, the first click should not turn the parking lights on in the front?

First click turns on the parking lights all the way around. Second click turns on the headlamps too.

Gotchya. That's how it's been with every other car I've ever owned. Is changing the parking lights in front pretty easy?

I believe so, but I haven't had to do it with my 2006 Prius. Perhaps one of the other owners will chime in with their experience.

Well, I went to WalMart last night and the little computer-thingy that directed me to the correct light bulbs...

The ones it directed me to were 13.5 V. They appeared to be the right shape/size.

I thought I read somewhere here that I need 12 V ones??? I didn't bother buying those 13.5 V ones. I'll check to see if O'Reilly has them.

Did you ever get a satisfactory answer to this? I just got a ticket from a police officer who told me my parking lights were out. Do I even HAVE parking lights on a 2005 Prius?

Yes. They're small 5W bulbs that are behind what looks to be the yellow reflector in the headlight unit. It's easily accessible from under the hood. Just twist the plastic base and carefully pull out the base. Use a cloth to cover the bulb and pull it out. Use a cloth to replace the bulb (you don't want oils from your fingers on the surface of the bulb) and reverse the steps above.

    No.

    Probably.

I found it easy to remove the front passenger side bulb - it's just a 1/4 turn counter clockwise and pull. I had an awful time getting that one back in, not enough space to put my hand in and turn. Finally wound up unscrewing the top of the headlight and lifting the headlight assembly. It doesn't go far, but it was far enough that I could twist the bulb back in. The drivers side was easier.

Voltage in a running vehicle wanders all over the place, even in a slick one like ours. That 13.5 is meant for automotive use and should work fine.

Yes, one at each corner, unless some are burned out.

Thanks, I went to the parts store, got the bulbs and replaced them. I recently had the car in to the dealer because one of the headlights was out. The mechanic did not mention that both parking lights were also out. Live and learn.
