No problem. I wish the fuel economy was a bit better though. I filled up today at the pumps and was shocked to see the price at £1.00 per litre!

If I can get my next tank to the magic 900 miles on a tank I'll be happy. I'm actually shooting for a 1,000 mile tank this summer... :)

hypermile nikki and get that 1000miles

you did update with the latest bms+ and canview firmware or did you not?

EV mode on the highway and overall more use of the mg's

    you have the programmer?

I'm using the April version of the firmware, which I think is the latest. I've got a programmer so yes, upgrade regularly.

The version I have makes use of the 99% SOC spoof - but it's limited use on highways.

However, I've been playing with the manual BMS+ mode this week and managed to up the fuel economy from 78 UK mpg to 83 UK mpg. The manual mode spoofs the SOC at any user-set level. By choosing when to 'tell' the car that the SOC is 40% and when it's, say 80% I've been able to get a much better performance. I can't recreate the fantastic 70 mph EV only mod (with ICE Spin) for extended periods of time but I can certainly attain better numbers on the freeway using manual SOC manipulation. To be honest though this mode requires a lot of attention so it's best accomplished when someone else is in the car!

I have noticed a strange problem this week though - it seems that when I accelerate in EV mode sometimes the reported voltage on the Can View goes UP rather than DOWN. That's not right! I have checked all the cells and they appear just fine so I may put it down to a software glitch somewhere.

Does the car act different at 99% than 80%? Just wondering because my CAN-View will give me a warning when my Hymotion fakes the SOC greater than 85% SOC and my car does not seem to do anthing different

When my actual SOC is between 60% and 62% the fake SOC is 80%. If the actual sock goes up to 63% then the fake SOC goes to 81% and so on. I have not tested it to see how far it will go yet. It will do something similar when going below 60% actual SOC.

ok yes i just updated the latest one today.
but the high soc was already in the version before that
just some minor things in this one.

mmm the manuel soc setting.. i forgot about that.. is that stil working in the latets version?

i think what you are doing is letting the voltage drop a little more?
not sure if that is a smart thing to do.

i think wy the ewerts brothers can do this is because in the final version the battery packs are a lot bigger in KWH than our 3 nmih packs.

higher soc will mean more use off the MG's instead of ICE.
but SOC needs to be adjusted
so when you have 99% soc at low speeds the MG's wil turn the ICE to lose energy
so at that point you need to adjust the soc for you speed to make it the perfect match.
buth at higher speeds the prius will simple use more mg power for propultsion and you can increase that soc to 99%

So I'm guessing 80% is the middle ground for low speed and high speed high MPG driving. Low speed will still produce EV only and high speed will produce 100+ MPG.

I wonder if Hymotion can fake a 99% SOC only at high speeds. I wonder what kind of effect it would have on my commute. I have been going into EV mode at start until I hit highway speeds a few miles down the road. When get above 34 MPH I go into S1. I wonder if 99% SOC would help during S1?

    today fueled the car
    3,70L/100km
    or 1 liter on 27km
    or 63,51 mpg

damm the 2010 can do that without a plugin mod...............well get 60mpg.

    @force
i do see that in stage 1 i also have lower fuel use and more MG use

Well done Nikki, excellent results. I have been getting 61mpg UK over the last 2795 miles in my regular Prius so you are a good 37% over and above my benchmark. I can stretch to 72 on hot days so on that basis you'll be getting 100mpg. Magic.

There is no doubt about it, Nikki, you are the Susan Boyle of the Prius world.

    Oh no! Please no!

    Anything but her!

I was once called the British Chelsea Sexton. That was an accolade.
Given the fact I don't like the Boyle... I'm not sure how I feel about it! ;)

Do you fancy coming and having a drive some time? You're more than welcome and you do have my phone number! I think I saw you a few weeks back but you turned off before I caught up!

I was referring to your coming out of nowhere on these Prius forums and putting on such a magnificent performance of converting to a three pack battery.
I certainly was not referring to your appearance or lifestyle.

    Hi :)

Well, I was joking but thanks for the reassurance! :D

I've actually been around for a while - but I guess no-one noticed me. Tee hee!

I'm glad folks like the conversion though, although I've not done anything new and there's certainly better conversions out there. I've just talked about how I did mine!

    Okay.

So think of all the funny British Curse words, and all of the Canadian ones too, and some choice American ones: Add them all together with being roused at 1:30 AM and add a trip to the emergency room.

    Velma did it again.

Pack number 1 (The surviving pack from the last nasty incident) decided it didn't like me last night.

I came home around 9:00 and plugged the charger in. Ambient temp of the batteries was around 20 degrees C.

Charge would have normally finished by 11:30 pm but getting woken at around 1:30 by popping sounds I headed downstairs.

    The power was off:

    Velma had an instant-tint glass.

And one pack was in the process of heavily venting and exploding.
I ended up inhaling some of the nasties and then had trouble breathing, so ended up in hospital getting checked out.

I think the car is totaled now. Luckily for me my Insurance company KNOW that my car is a Plug In, because I was very particular about telling them before I started work.

The charger is blackened. The inside of the car is rancid with black gunk and not all is happy.

Again, I suspect my cooling mods were not enough. Feel free to hit me over the head with a piece of 2*4 if you so wish. I feel pretty bad anyway!

    Nikki.

Now WITHOUT a PHEV at least, until the insurance company come look at it.

At least we have another Prius to fall back on - but she's going to stay stock for a while....

omg damm. this is a setback

i am hitting you.. do you feel it..... got dammed..

did you not use the zivan input loop?

i connected temp sensors to pack 1 and 2 connected to a relay. so if the packs get to hot the charger stops charging.. no need for fan cooling...

but i still have fan cooling in place..............OEM fans connect directly on the packs..

dammm... this is a chame.. ... this is going to take some time again.

what i think is happening is the packs get to hot because ambiant temp is also going up..
    i see a 20 celcius to 40 celcius rize on a charge..

so if your ambiant is somewhere 30 celcius ( maybe more because the car is hotter from the sun on it ) you get 50 of 60 celsius on the pack...
i stop the charger when one pack gets to 50celcius and that is done automaticly by the temp sensor and relay connected to the charger.

    Sorry to hear the story.
Did you have any temperature sensors working on charging?
    watch carefully their temperatures

Yes Nikki, me too. The price for being a pioneer? Hope your insurance company is sympathetic.

wow nikki so sorry to hear that!! i also have charging temp issues on my Zenn, but i am lucky in that my pack is so small, that i simply charge for 2 hours, unplug for an hour, and plug back in for another 2 hours. and i am done. a bit of a hassle i know, but my Zenn's charging system sophisitcation predates the stone age so to preserve my battery's longetivity i cant allow my charging system to run unabated.

keep us posted on how your insurance company handles this.

a 13 euro relay with temp sensor and its automatic
just like i have it with my zivan charger.

in yout case just use the relay to brake the 110volts ( its rated 250 volts and 10amps or so. )

Sorry about your luck. Glad your OK. Hope you get back to PHEV soon. Do you plan on doing anything different next time around? Will you try to do it all your self again or try to buy a kit of some kind?

    Do you have any pictures?
