I was given a 2009 Prius fleet vehicle at the dealership the other day while they installed my exterior XM antenna. It had pin striping on the side; the first one I had seen. The posts about striping here were very old and PC shop didn't seem to have them available. Where can I buy those? Do you advise self-install or professional? I also "googled" and couldn't find anything. Help!!!

When I picked up my new 2009 Touring, the pin stripes were already on it. I assumed they were part of the package, as there wasn't a separate itemized charge for it. They also installed the rear bumper protection, again with no separate charge.

Thanks for the pics. The pin striping looks great. I think it looks especially good on a white Prius.

Pin stripes and rear bumper protector are not standard equipment on, nor included in any option package for, either the Standard or Touring Edition Prius. They're add-ons which dealers usually charge you for.

Since I had never seen a striping job like the above (which looks great, by the way), I did my own in a very prosaic, mostly straight line. Its easy to do it yourself this way. I suspect it's somewhat more difficult to fashion those beautiful curves.

Since I've lived with mine for about 7 months, I might try something different.

This one is 1/8" silver, avaiable at most any automotive paint store for a few bucks.

Had mine done about 2 years ago. I had a guy who did nothing but paint pin stripes. He charged me about $290 to do it. He did a great job. You can see his work on my album link.

Thanks y'all for the nice comments. The work was done here in Baton Rouge by B & M Conversions who have been in business 25 years. They do a lot of commercial stuff. Those are tape.............and it cost me..........$70.00. Not too shabby I think!!!

Here in the Denver metro we have a great shop doing vinyl striping. The stripes on my car are vinyl. I bought the graphic off the internet, and then the striping (3M) from the local supplier to match. Mark at Jazz It Up then helped me come up with the layout, and did the application. Click on the pics link below.

    :first:

I would never have thought of that straight idea. I'm amazed at how much I REALLY like it! I'll have to share the pic with my striper. If it wasn't for the graphic at the back of my stripe I would HAVE to become a copy-cat. I have lots of the stripe I used left over.

The straight line lengthens the car visually, IMHO, and avoids the issue of how to deal with the curve down on the front fender (I'm still not totally happy with how we did mine on the front).

The pin striping looks great. All your mods look great.

Your whole car may be the best looking black Gen II Prius I've seen.

    I agree!!!

Boo, do you think tinted window deflectors would add to ufourya's black car or be too much?

I'm considering them for my silver car. I've noticed they definitely have different effects on cars with different color (and whether the windows are tinted or not - tint tends to make them blend in better).

PriusLewis, I just had "Eleanor's" windows tinted with ceramic tint yesterday. She looks awesome. They are all at 35% which is legal limit here!! I think she looks more stylin'...........now...........what next???

Inches, Thanks for the compliment. My stripes look good I think.....it makes the car more than "plain vanilla." But............there is nothing wrong with plain. I saw the stripes on a loaner Prius we got from the dealer and I had an "epiphany moment." So you see the result.....

I continue to have lots of FPG with her.....she's a wonderful car!!
