    now, now...
    [smile]

Why am I so (insert all of those wonderful qualities you've attributed to me)...?

...because all of your opinions--- each and every one of them --- give me the opportunity to question my own.

Y'all are the ones who deserve the compliments. I think that, actually, you're really responding to the magnificence of *yourselves.*

    This, I believe.

Yes, I have noticed this. It is all the more apparent because it is rare. You also do not fall into the trap of attacking people or their ideas. It does not hurt, from a male perspective, that you are attractive (if that is your photo in the avatar) Your reply was also very nice. I suspect you are a very "nice" person.

I still disagree with you on most of your social/political positions.

Thank you for the kind words.

My political and social positions: that's okay; I'm not married to any of 'em! Your disagreement serves primarily as an intellectual challenge, not a personal one.

As I've mentioned, I think that the "truth" (and I use this word with some significant caution) lies in the dialogue, and in the assimilation of differing viewpoints. I'm okay with saying, "oh, I didn't know that" or, "I was wrong" or, "now that you've explained it to me that way, I see your point, and why mine may need to be amended."

I guess, really, all that I ask is the same courtesy...and, for the most part, that is accorded me.
