PiP: Did a blended drive? Come share how you did!

    I have ~10 miles commute so I drive in pure EV in the morning. I can't charge at work so I use some gas coming back home.

    For my trip back home, I usually have 2 to 3 EV miles left. I switch between EV and HV mode to get optimal efficiency and comfort.

    By efficiency, I want the best for both gas and electric miles. For comfort, I use heated seat (at High) and turn on cabin heat (if there is excess). I strategically switch between two modes and monitor the coolant temperature. I find it really fun!

    The results are rewarding as well. The first trip is 25 mins and not only MPGs are EV boosted, the first 5 min did not show the warmup penalty! Outside temp was about 40 deg F, car was cold-soaked for 9 hours.

    The second trip is 20 mins and resulted better. Sweet, I love this car!

    I'm experiencing similar numbers blended with little charge and about the same distance. It's been a bit colder here though. You should be getting this weather soon. ;)

    Also, crazy that I already have more miles than you. Getting close to 13k.

    :)My Prius Plug In is now my 100% daily driver. In the past ten months, my driving was all EV, or EV until depleted. Last weekend, I was out and switched between HV and EV, but made the mistake of returning home with some EV range remaining. With practice, I'll get better.

    Nice.
    When it is really cold, you can even try to game it on the first leg as well, so you will have warm cabin both ways and more EV miles to play with in the return trip. Maybe even with on hit on combined efficiency?

    Nice, gas was used for propulsion and cabin heat.

    PiP was able to get 9 EV miles with the ICE off. The miles with gas engine running still averaged 51.8 MPG.

    I'm actually very surprised at the numbers I am getting this winter during a REALLY cold week. I'm willing to burn some gas for heat and am getting better than twice the mileage that I would be getting in a regular Prius.

    Im glad to hear there are other PIP owners that are willing to burn a little gas for cabin heat, as I do, I really dont like to bundle up with layers and layers of chothes, winter jacket over short sleeves is my norm!

    I'm all for saving money and gas, but we are talking about nickels and dimes. I agree with you, not worth it to me.

    The snow got to us today. I did the blended drive both ways today.

    Morning trip was 9.9 miles with 148 MPG gas consumption and about 5 EV miles left. I manually turned on the front defogger 4-5 times on that trip.

    The trip home was 9.8 miles with 83 MPG. I had to use both front and rear defoggers to remove ice. I just left it in EV mode and let PiP manage the blending. I am impressed how easy and well it works. No brainer!

    In total, I used 0.185 gallon about 0.07 gallon more than "no snow" day.

    PiP is now charging in the garage. I need to go back out later to buy salt and shavel snow at mom's house. I won't get enough charge for the 6.5 miles trip but I'll take any EV boost.

    Since I leave from a warm garage, heated seat is plenty enough for me. The only time I use cabin heat for morning trip is when I need to defog.
