    Wow. Jalopnik, a web site that glorys in its brand of irreverent humor has a pathetic spin on the story ~ finding its most important comment to be that Tesla, an environmental automaker, " ... ha a penchant as of late for gas-guzzling private airplanes ..."

    Just so sad, @ Teslamotorsclub someone in contact w/Tesla said that all 3 killed were Tesla engineers.

    A couple of years ago, I attended an IEEE meeting here in San Carlos where Doug Bourn was the featured speaker. (The topic was the Tesla Roadster - really great seminar.) Doug also had a reputation of being a very knowledgeable and careful pilot.

    I can hardly wait to see the NTSB report on this incident. Doug is one of the last pilots I'd expect to hear about in an accident like this.

    As the son of a private pilot, I hate to imagine what their families are going through tonight. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

    Big blow to their families and friends, to Tesla, and to the EV community as a whole.

    This is horrible.
    Of course I feel sympathy for those who were killed and for their families.
    At the same time, I think of what a great accomplishment these people have made in history. These people have been headed towards changing the world for the better, with their $465Mill government grant, upcoming $100m IPO, and their upcoming Model S electric sedan for 2011.
    This is terrible news.

    This is the sort of thing that can destroy a start-up company. Even working for large corporations, we had rules about how many of us that could fly in the same plane.

    Yeah. Terrible news for Tesla and the families.

    My company, which is very large (IIRC) has rules for how many in the same group can fly in the same plane but sometimes, if we're all going to the same meeting, there's nothing we can do about it. We have basically no choice but to break the rules.
