Seeing how I just got solar panels installed and my commute is about 30 mil a day I am right behind you. :D I just wonder how long it will take them to make it into a commercial product.

I did not see it, but I thought I read somewhere they were shooting for $5k. They are trying to provide something cheaper than Edrive for $12k.

The below link is a pretty cool video from youtube! Hymotion has done an excellent PHEV implementation. Now they just need to get the price down.

$12K? $5K? OUCH! No, I definitely had no idea about the price. So I correct myself, I'll get it WHEN this technology isn't that cost-prohibitive.

I'll opt for it when it comes as an option and isn't a third party add-on.

Yeah it is at the stage for early adopters or people with solar panels that can plug into it. Although if you only drive under 25 miles a day commuting then you will probably not need to fill up but once a year. :D

Wrong. If you drive faster than 25 mph, you probably will.... and you probably will not accelerate properly to 25 mph unless you are very good in stepping on the gas pedal.

It is still a hybrid, and gas will still be used. Just that it has more battery to assist more often with more battery, hence the better gas mileage.

And the hymotion was said to be around $30k recently, not $5k like they said a few years back.

    B) Wow! Go to the above youtube link and watch this video. Click on "other videos" by the same guy and you can get a more complete story EXECEPT where he got this done, and how much. I am impressed and with a 3.1 mile commute (ok, I know I should ride a bicycle for that distance), I am interested.

Check out www.hymotion.com link to Google's rechargeIT.org program! Google is on the cutting edge with not only Prius and Escape conversion to plug-in with Hymotion's system, but with solar panels on the co's rooftops that generate enough electricity for 1,000 plus homes. The plug-in fleet and a control group are wired into a database to keep records and demonstrate the plug-in advantage.

I am impressed with what Google is doing with the $$$ they are raking in! ;)
