Well it happened I lost one of my keys. Now im thinking of getting a spare.
I know that IF the battery in the smartkey died, I could unlock the door with the hidden key blade and put the dead key close to the push start button to start the car...
I wonder if this thing will work on prius:
    Redirect Notice

It's a picture I find online,. It has a transponder inside, so I wonder if one like that can work for toyota's system. I know, will have to unlock the doors manually, and I need to put the key close to the start button every time... but would this work?

I am under the impression that I still need to pay dealer to program it, and they could easily say the remote I bought elsewhere doesnt work and upsell me one of theirs. or it's no longer the case?

if you get a virgin fob on ebay (around $100.) you can find a locksmith to program it and cut the key.
