Engine light lit up. Checked code. Oxygen sensor defective. Replaced sensor with aftermarket part. Can't get engine light to go out (using diagnostic reader). Dealer wants $400 to turn it off. Can it be turned off without the dealer? Any help appreciated. Thx

Disconnect the 12V battery negative cable for a few minutes, then reconnect.

If you still see the check engine light then there is still something wrong.

The sensor upstream from the catalytic converter is an air/fuel ratio sensor while the downstream sensor is an oxygen sensor. Did you replace the downstream sensor?

The error code indicated the problem was the post catalytic sensor...so I replaced it...I'll try detaching the negative cable and see if that solves the problem...thx
