Anybody had any luck with color matching a pre-painted bumper cover?

I'm on my 3rd insurance claim for other people damaging my front bumper. It has enough scuffs on it at this point, I'm ready to actually get it fixed instead of pocketing the insurance payment. I came across this pre-painted deal, and fits my needs pretty well. There's zero damage to anything else on the car, just scuffs and gouges on the front bumper that are starting to get to me. So, no need to blend the paint into the fender or hood.

MBI auto sells them on Ebay and Amazon:

I have a 2011 prius in Blue Ribbon Metallic. I searched the spans of the internet, and have found 1 person here who tried it with the Blizzard Pearl without great results. One bad review with pictures on amazon Customer Review.

Do I give it a shot?

Wow. Never heard of this place. Love the slogan: "Save the planet, fix a Hybrid"

Doesn't look like they have a 2010-2011 bumper, but I'll certainly keep this place in mind... Thanks!

When I was there earlier this month, they seem to have Gen2’s and the v wagon as staples.

Here’s a shot from their lot earlier this month:

    Matches the OP’s avatar well(y).

I'll definitely check them out, but I'm not too terribly hopeful I'll find a 6 year old front bumper from a junk car worthy of replacing mine. It's really not THAT bad. From 50 feet away, it looks fine.

Anybody else have any experience with pre-painted or aftermarket bumpers in general?

    bump.

Insurance claim from the guy who hit me came back at $590. I can save some cash if I go with the $290 painted bumper and install myself.

Anybody have good luck with pre-painted front bumper from MSI Auto?

Is that fairing seriously torn, or is this just scrapes? If the latter I would just get it painted by a body shop. it's not like it'll stay pristine forever. Repainting is better for the planet methinks.

I'm in a constant, low-level lather over the whole concept of modern "bumpers", but that's another story.

It's just scraped through the paint and into the black plastic. The rest of the car is pristine... and I may sell it for something that fits my family of 5 better in the next year or 2. So, the $290 pre-paint is a good compromise I thought.

I have my own paint gun, and could paint myself, but I don't have a great place to paint at the moment. Considering the price of paint, and the time, I'm not sure it's worth it.

The other option... pocket the $590 and buy my kids the 2 seat power-wheel I've been eyeing up. I think that would bring me more enjoyment.

That is... until they drive it into my car.

Remember when bumpers used to be bumpers, steel with black rubber contact strips if you were lucky, and hydraulically mounted. Then they went to textured black plastic fairings, mounted with wee bolts and plastic clips. Then the head idiots proclaimed they should be painted.

Those were the days! I got rear ended with my '99 F250 years ago. Fella that hit me needed thousands of dollars in repairs... hardly a scratch on my BUMPER.

I ordered a prepainted bumper from the same people off Ebay and it was shipped fast and fit well, it was red, but not near a match even though I sent the paint code with the order. MBI was good to deal with and offered to send me another bumper or refund part of my money so I could get it repainted locally. I got an estimate, $250 if I took it off and brought it to the shop to repaint. They then offered to refund all my money, I didn't feel right accepting full refund since I did get an intact bumper cover. I agreed to a partial refund and two weeks later I hit a deer and broke the bumper and left headlight, so it got replaced anyway. MBI was good to deal with and I would use them again, in my conversation with them they said I could send one of the tow hook covers and they could use that to paint me a matching bumper. I'll do that if I ever need to have this one replaced again.

Thanks milkman. I had found your previous post, and one other member with a pearl white car. Neither of you had a perfect match.

I think I may give them a call. Sounds like they're a reputable company at least. I appreciate the feedback.

If I order from them again, I'll cut a piece out of the damaged bumper and mail it to them in a bubble envelope, then they won't have to return a tow hook cover. The bumper cover they sent me was packaged so well, they could have dropped it out of an airplane and it wouldn't have been scratched. FedEx didn't hurt it so you know it was tough packaging.
