My 2016 V has the original 12V battery and continues to run trouble free. The odometer just rolled over to 40,000 miles last weekend on a trip to DC. Since this is nearly the eighth year of operation for the battery, it may be wise to be preemptive and replace it before winter sets in. I see that Autozone has an AGM direct replacement. Anyone else here used the Autozone AGM battery in their Prius? Any problems?

i have not used it, but have read a few good success stories from others. i really don't recall any issues with any after market batteries except what seemed to be a bad batch of optima's

Thanks. I se that Autozone has a 15% off coupon which puts the battery around $179 before taxes.

Autozone (and other automotive retailers) often have electronic load testers, will test your current battery condition, for free.

Yes, I thought I would have them load test my battery. But don't you think after nearly eight years of service it should be replaced?

I'm in a similar position with my wife's 2017 Prius that has the original battery. (Only just under 25,000 miles on the car). I have a pretty cool battery tester I'm using to keep an eye on it....just tested last month and it's saying good and at 100%. Let me look to see what the model/brand of tester I have.....it's a TopDon BT100 and Amazon has them for less than $60. I keep track of all my car batteries to know when one is nearing the end of life. (My Tundra's is at 75% and it was bought in 2018 but the Tundra sits outside in our weather (-20 to 100) so makes sense. Our Priis live in the garage.

I’m a wait for it to die Kinda guy, but last time it cost me a call to triple a, and an hour of time.
That was a 7 year old battery

    Yes.
IF it really was 8 years old.
I've done the math several times and it only comes out to 6.

8 years doesn't sound preemptive to me. 8 years is more like "got my money's worth, then risked getting stranded for a couple years, and got away with it too muahahaha!"

Maybe your evil laugh just sounds different? Yes, it's absolutely time.

Mine needed replacement last winter, the ten-year mark. But it had suffered a certain amount of COVID disuse abuse.

I keep a small jump pack around, so I can direct my worrywart energies at other things.

Yes. I put a new battery in ours in September of 2015, and running the numbers seems like just over 6 years. Op’s got a 2017, not sure what the earliest purchase date would be for those.

Lol, you are correct. My V was built 9/2015 but is a 2016 model. That makes the battery about 6.25 years old.

We are going to be shuttling grandkids around this Winter and even though the battery is a bit over 6 years old it has me concerned. Some of it will be overnight trips to the mountains.

    Piece of mind is priceless.
Do what ever alleviates your concern.
As in, just get a new battery so you can stop worrying about THAT.

With vehicles like ambulances, various "emergency" vehicles, I've heard they just slam in a fresh battery every two years or so. Depends on your priorities.

For most of the municipal and commercial stuff I work on, I just replace the 12V at 4 years- reliability is a bigger concern than saving a few dollars.
