This has probably been discussed before, but, as a new owner, I would like to know what should I do if I press the power button (starting or stopping) and forget to hit the brake pedal first?
Do you then repeatedly press the power button with the brake applied until you see the 'ready' sign on the dash? How about after stopping to turn off the power?
I guess, if you hit the power button without hitting the brake pedal, you just hit the brake pedal and press the power button again repeatedly until you get to the 'ready' mode (starting), or until the power turns off (stopping). ??
This will happen sooner or later, and I want to be ready for it. Thanks.

If it happens, this is what you do.
    1. Put foot on brake
    2. Put finger on power button
    3. Press
    4. Enjoy!

Sounds like you just hit the brake pedal and press the power button again--either starting or stopping. That's simple enough. Thanks.
Wish they would cover this in the manual.

Press brake pedal firmly and press the power button carefully and deliberately. Hurrying and stabbing at the thing can get people tied into little knots.

I have a little pet peeve with the power button. I often push it to turn off the car and it does not work. I push it firmly enough, but too quickly. There seems to be a minimum time that it has to be depressed in order to turn off the car. It is a very short time, but there is some sort of minimum. Bah....

Just press the power button without stepping on the brake pedal. The system will power down.

the morning after buying my Prius, I went out to start the car and as I learned later, did not press the break. I was convinced I was sold a lemon and if it wasn't for a breakfast date I probably would have called a tow truck then and there.
Luckily after breakfast, I tried to re-start it, this time using the break and was on my way.

I keep hearing the words power button brake and stop... you don't have to use the brake to turn off the car... once you press the park button.. all you have to do is hit the power button... If you are stopped and you hit the power button, the car will park itself and power down. If you're above a certain speed, the car locks out the Power button until you HOLD it down for 3 second.. then it goes into aux mode (everything except radio, and simple steering and braking)... ...just in case the hybrid system ever freaks out when driving...

the park button works up till 8mph.. after that it shifts to N.. same for the rest of the gears..... well... reverse...

The park button works up to *2* mph. Two. I know that because
I tried it in an icy lot where locking the front end wouldn't
have mattered. Somewhere between 2 and 3 on the speedo, the
car laughed at me and went to N instead. 8 MPH would be plenty
fast enough to tear things up inside the tranny.

I think you have to hit it twice from ACC to OFF. IGN-ON (to allow windows to open, AC on, etc) is between those positions.

My basic rule is just keep hitting power button until you get the mode you want. Except for driving, where you must also step on brake.

I've been annoyed by the "debounce time" on the power switch. Sometimes I want to adjust the windows from power-off and must hit it twice, BUT with a pause between the two hits, and the "hits" are more like "half second hold downs".

Anyway, Prius probably isn't the best car for quick "bank robbery getaways".
