Hi -- I could use some advice here please.

So now there is a $1,750 rebate through July 31. Should I expect to be able to negotiate a similar price as if there was no rebate, and then just subtract the rebate amount? Or, when there is a rebate, do dealers pretty much factor that in and their price includes the rebate discount? So the net effect of the rebate is really negligible?

We're shopping for a Three (this will be our third Prius, had a 2004 and have a 2010). And just wondering what people think about negotiating a price when there is an advertised rebate.

    Thank you.

Welcome to Prius Chat @kullboys ... You'll have to wait till USA wakes up to get and reasonable answer tho. Sorry, I'm in UK and don't have a clue about your rebates and such.

    Welcome!
Knowing what state in the US you are located helps us provide appropriate advice.
Here in Virginia the prices posted by the dealers are after the rebate is subtracted.

Toyota subsidizes the rebate. It is unlikely you could negotiate a similar price in its absence. There was only a $500 rebate on my 2017 when purchased in October 2016.
The rebates do affect the actual price paid. Some dealers have better pricing than others. I drove 150 miles to get a lower price and better dealer experience.

If you are a Costco member and a dealer had the car you wish in stock they can direct you to the dealer with additional discount pricing.

When I purchased last year in July I emailed the surrounding dealers and went with the one who quoted the lowest price (including any type of sale/rebate/promotional discount). At that time quotes ranged from 10%-20% off MSRP. Focus on the total deal and you will be good to go.

IMHO.....the ONLY thing that matters is the $ # you have to write a check for, to drive it off the lot.......it's not your problem, how many hoops they have to jump through to arrive at a number you're happy with! .......just saying

you should expect the standard discount negotiations at the dealer, whether there is a factory rebate or not.

I think I can answer the state question I asked in post 3.
They are in the state of confusion.

I think we have another one post wonder starting a thread, never to return.
