    hi forum, newbie here bought a Prius 2024 LE a couple of weeks ago, getting used to drive it (first hybrid ever), but I'm having issues with google maps through the Android Auto. I have Samsung galaxy f23 paired to the car . I ussually use Spotify for music and google maps for GPS. never had problems with my previous cars. after running fine for a couple of weeks , google maps suddenly stops giving voice directions , I can see the map wors , but no audio at all, and the Spotify music plays normally (little faded but plays music). I have done many things I found over the web: restarted phone, set google maps to play voice over Bluetooth, disconnect and reconnect the phone, checked google maps is not muted, etc. the problem happens randomly, sometimes i turn on the car an everything works fine, music starts playing, I put my destination in google maps and start driving . after a few blocks google maps goes mute!. Other times google maps audio keeps working fine, but the Spotify audio is really low!. I'm going crazy as google maps ia very important for my daily commute. I hope here in the forum somebody can help me,

    Used to be you could disconnect the 12 volt battery for a few minutes to do a hard reset on all the systems so they're back to factory spec. That's likely the easiest way. I'm sure Toyota's software engineers have all kinds of bugs and a lack of funding for more staff to get them resolved quickly.

    Alternatively, you can go through all the settings available and figure it out manually through trial and error...

    Google maps losing voice = do not know, happens very rarely with mine so I haven't looked into it

    Low audio = Just activate the voice command then exit voice command (you can press the button on the steering wheel, you can do ok google, you can do the mic button on the stereo, whatever method you want to get into a voice command). Low volume is the head unit turning down the stereo but not resuming normal volume when you're done, sometimes it's dumb and doesn't restore volume. Going in and out of a voice command mode makes it restore volume.

    Honestly go try waze and see if you have the same issue you do with google voice. Worth a shot to narrow down the problem.

    Anytime I had an issue with my wife's phone on AA I just forcestop the maps app and it reloads on-screen and resumes working.

    My phone works perfect though since it's heavily debloated with ADB and shizuku

    Sounds like a nightmare trying to get modern day apps to work on a super primitive and poorly coded Toyota infotainment screen. Toyota is woefully behind everyone else in onboard software systems that integrate with web apps...

    Yea you can get better results with aftermarket screens and some moneyORknow-how.
    Sad that each car company tries to reinvent the same wheel.

    Chiming in on this as I've had this very issue and was about to post asking about this.
    In my case, the common trigger to cause Android Auto to act up is my turn signal warning system. When Maps is speaking while music is playing and the warning system beeps it will periodically trigger this issue. As mentioned, telling google to tell me the weather will get the audio level for music back, but the voice assistant is mute the rest of that ride.
    I've disabled the warning beeps in my cluster's settings. No issues the last 24 hours, but we will see. I'm hoping there's a better way to work around the issue as I appreciate the beeps to warn me of cars in the lane my turn signal is on for.

    Easy workaround, just don't use signals... :rolleyes:

    Google Maps issues with Android Auto Status Update:
    Ok it's been 3 months I 've own the car and the issues with the Infotainment and android auto keep annoying me. Specially when Google maps goes voiceless while the music audio keeps going but at a really low volume!. the workarounds I 've found is that I have to reconnect my phone (Galaxy s23) Bluetooth to the car. it usually takes me 2 attempts (the 1st one fails and i had to do a retry) the it starts working sometimes if I'm lucky for the rest of the trip. normally a couple of times during my drive the issue comes back google maps goes mute (the Navigation screen keeps on).
    the other workaround I found is that when it goes mute, you have to switch audio mode to regular FM or Sirius, wat until the next driving turn or stop light and after that you switch the mode back to Bluetooth and it all works again. it works, but it's a pain in the *ss having to do that a couple of times in my drive and every time i start the car (sometimes it reconnects the Bluetooth , sometimes I have to connect manually again, it's really random!.
    this is really a bug in my Prius and I wish Toyota would listen to us and fix those annoying bugs, they are distracting when you are driving because you have to be touching the screen and taking the eyes off the road for a couple of seconds or pullover (wasting commute time).
    other annoyance I complain about ( that I did not have on my much less expensive Kia Optima):
    - automatic dark mode doesn't work, you have to switch your headlights to make it work.
    - when you receive a call, the Navi screen switches to phone mode, but when you hang up, the Navi screen doesn't switch back to map mode, you have to touch the screen (in th google map icon to go back)!
    -in the Same way, if you answer a call while listening to Spotify, when you hang up , it doesn't resume the music! agghhhhhh. I'm sure is all a mix of Bluetooth + Android Auto issue and i can't find help at my Toyota dealership (they are useless)
    hope somebody has some sdvice or better solutions for me!

    To get the audio back to full volume, try just pressing the voice command button on the steering wheel or saying "Hey, Toyota".

    For those that want to know what's happening, I believe it's the following:

    There are two systems that are interacting - the telematics unit and the audio head unit. When the telematics unit needs to say something, it's supposed to send something like this to the audio head unit:

    <command to reduce volume>
    "message to the driver"
    <command to restore volume>

    Either the software in the telematics unit is not always sending the restore command, the audio head unit software is not responding to the restore command, or the restore command is getting lost/garbled between the two computers. The other possibility is that the telematics unit sends a constant signal to the head unit to reduce volume and then doesn't stop sending it when it's supposed to.

    In any case, the workaround is to just force the telematics unit to say something to cycle through the commands again. The quickest and easiest is through the voice command. Even if you don't tell the car anything, it will still respond with something like "I didn't understand that". But that's enough for it to resend the restore volume command as part of the process, which should return the volume back to its full level. Very occasionally you might have to do it twice if it fails the first time. The nice thing about the "Hey, Toyota" version is that you don't have to look down to find any buttons.

    Auto dark - Requires a light sensor that doesn't come on the base trim. If you wanted that feature, you should have gotten an XLE.

    Resuming Spotify after call - It's been a known issue that Android hasn't addressed for something like five years, so I wouldn't hold your breath. Quickest workaround is to change to a different music app and then switch back to Spotify. That should auto restart your music.

    I also have to note that, between Lane Tracing Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control, it's pretty safe to leave the car in control for a moment to find and press any buttons/screens. (Assuming you're in traffic on a major road and not driving through a neighborhood or something.)

    thanks for your reply, the main annoyance is loosing the Bluetooth s connection almost every time i restart the car after a few hours parked. to me is when i leave work to go home(+- 8 hours). i have to manually "reconnect Bluetooth to my phone. and as explained , also during driving. maybe there is faulty chip in the telematics Toyota neglects to replace. that is more critical than the music as the google maps guidance is more important for traffic , road incidents, etc . for now i keep doing the trick of changing the sources to reset google maps., but it's a pain!. overall, i like the car, i get 57.4 mpg!, i used to reach barely 30 in my kia optima (well that was good for a 2.4 engine). one thing i'm trying to get is a spare tire, a month ago i hit a pothole tha blew my 2 right tires. the tire repair kit is useless under that situation, called the road assist and they told me they can only help me replace the bad tire with a spare! ended up having to tow the car to a tire shop like 30 minutes away because . there was no tool to lift the car and unscrew the rims with the tires to take them to the tire shop and mount new tires. lesson learned. i want to get a donut spare or a real tire with rim at home (they sell them in ebay) so i can ask one of my sons to meet me at the car hehe.
