    Hello all.

Anyone know if there is any difference when comparing the Auris versus the 3rd Gen Prius?

I am referring to the oil burning issue and head gasket specifically that seems to be common on the 3rd Gen Prius.

Does the Auris suffer the same fate?

I don't know which model years apply, but it appears some Auris hybrids do use the afflicted 1.8L engine. Here's a pic from Eurekar.co.uk. If this is what your engine bay looks like, it would be my opinion that following the EGR circuit cleaning protocol generally outlined here on Priuschat would be smart money. Oil catch cans have developed a following, too. A final (and strictly personal) thought is that a 5k mile oil change protocol is good insurance against oil burning taking hold. If the U.K. follows European style, long oil change intervals, use a high quality A3/B4 or other high HTHS full synthetic.

    Yes.
    Think I will avoid buying.
Gonna have to skip that era of Toyota hybrids and go straight from 2016 onwards.

Do you know if the Lexus CT 200h suffers the same issue?

It seems it uses the same 1.8 litre engine.

Likely a wise choice. Toyota has re-designed the EGR circuit for 2016 and newer, placing the all-new appearing EGR cooler downstream of the cat. In theory, this should at least improve the tendency for circuit clogging, if not fix it completely. It will take years and miles for us to know this is the outcome for sure, though...

Yes it does, and is well documented, too. Any Toyota hybrid running this iteration (2010-2015) of the 2ZR-FXE engine with external EGR is affected. Note that the 2016 and newer prius engine is still called 2ZR-FXE despite EGR re-design.
