I'm a little miffed at Toyota. After replacing 12v battery in our 11-year-old Camry, found out the car has to relearn how to idle.

No mention of this in any Toyota manual I have.

So, my question is, is this something that could happen in the Prius, also. Or have they improved things since 2003?

I did replace my 12v Prius battery this winter and all I had to "adjust" afterwards was the clock. No idle issues whatsoever.

I actually don't think the car has to re-learn how to idle. It just re-learns to be more efficient based on how the car owner drives. Your problem is carbon buildup. Even in the Prius, there is always mention of cleaning the throttle body and MAF sensor. This also holds true for the Camry......and on top of that, the idle air control valve is problematic. When the car is warmed up, it'll idle normally, only when it's cold will you notice the low idle.

You mentioned on your other post you drove around for a while and the idle is normal. That's exactly what happens once it warms up....it goes back to normal. 99% certain it's an idle air control valve problem

Hey, JC, thanks again for the help....

Actually, I think I mispoke earlier. I drove the Camry for 20 minutes yesterday, and it was idling very poorly at the end of 20 minutes. Same thing after 45 minutes today. But, I drove another 45 after that and it seemed better....anyway.,..

Hey, Bisco, the Prius has 60K, the Camry 145K, but I did not want to make this thread anything more than a "could the Prius face a learning curve on idle also....?" since this is the Prius forum...
