Btw, since the Prius is in between a Corolla and Camry, two of the hottest cars on the market, I guess most people drive a tiny spec car.

Nono... they are correct!

That's elementry physics. When you see a big Hummer hits a SUV, you will understand why.

The main ideas here are:

1. Bigger always better, provide that you are the largest and heaviest. (that's why people are buying Hummers)

2. Hummer buyers believe that they will die in a car crash if they don't buy a Hummer.
(Same might be true to some SUV buyers too but beware! Hummers are bigger)

I've seem so many parents bought their 17 or 18 years old daughter with big SUV like Land Rover or Cadillac escad(what ever it call). They might put her on safe side but they put other people on danger. I've seen these kind of young people drive in to the mall and can't even park properly. Bigger might be safer for individual person but put more people in danger.

They really have to put different law on big SUV. Atleast people operate this kind of vehicle need truck license, they really need to get qualify to operate such a vehicle. If this is not exceptable idea, then change the SUV with different configuration, like lower their bumper so regular car can be safer.

Anyway, this kind of mind set really pissed me off.

 

The 2004 Mini Cooper had less cabin intrusion than the f150 on all crash test’s. I think that is a good thing. granted in accidents at low speed the mini suffered greater body damage but at high speed when people are likely to get seriously hurt or die the Mini Cabin was much safer that the big truck.

Size and weight have nothing to do with structural integrity it is all in the design
So depending on how a vehicle is designed is what makes it safe not size.

Absolutely! People should only be allowed to drive the approximate size of vehicle they have passed a driving test in, and the driving test needs to be far more stringent than present tests are.

And bumper height needs to be standardized on a national level (regulated by law if need be.)

Come on people lets not embarrass oursevles. I enjoy having a forum dedicated to the Prius, but I also realize that members of most auto forums on the net would shake their heads in disbelief if they read some of the stuff on this forum.
