    i got the elmscan 5 and trying to get some usable info from the canbus
    using windows hyper terminal i got a succefull connection and some response from the car.

    only do not now what to do with the following information

    send : 03CB ( battery )
    and get :
    7EA 03 7F 03 12
    7E8 03 7F 03 12
    7EB 03 7F 03 12

    i translate this to decimals and get
    7EA = 2026
    03 = 3
    7f = 127
    03 = 3
    12 = 18
    maybe the 7EA is the prius ECU ident?

    sending al using attilla fas excel sheet

    7EB - 7E8 - 7EA are the ecu numbers

    03 -max current discharge in amps ( 3 )
    7F -max current charge in amps ( 127 )

    Uhh... the excel chart that your using lists ONLY PASSIVE messages, meaning they're sent no matter if you send "03cb" or not.

    Anyway this is what the message means:
    7EB 03 7F CB 11 00 00 00 00
    ^ this is the message id.

    03 means that there are 3 sets of (8 bits aka two hex characters) following.

    I don't know what the data (7F CB 11) means at this point.

    P.S. I don't think 03CB is a valid message to send- your only sending an message identifier, Its the equivalent of sending an envelope with nothing inside to address: 3CB.

    What your looking for is a message that starts with 03CB, your NOT sending a message with that ID, it is sent automatically 6 times a second or so.

    Do me a favor and do the following:
    Disclaimer: I am NOT 100% sure what the below message does. It is SUPPOSED to bring back a set of information that perhaps contains inverter temps. Help me at your own risk :p
    If your daring enough, do me a favor and send 07E3 02 01 C3
    and see if anything comes back...
    Repeat for 07E3 02 01 C4
    and see if anything comes back...

    I'm not an elmscan 5 expert, but I believe following command sequense will work...
    ATZ
    ATSP6
    ATE0
    ATH1
    ATL1
    ATMA
    The last MA command stands for Monitor All messages.
    Good Luck!

    @all - thx get back to it tomorrow i hope!

    @ken
    i have the same adapter control commands and used AT MA and got a buffer full message after a lot of messages from the canbus...
    so have to see how i can automatic delete info in the buffer of the adapter
    am going to have look in the manual again.

    maybe one of your command that you posted Will do that
    have to try tomorrow

    When I used the Agilent 6000 series MSO from work a couple of years ago, I didn't get those messages. I'm guessing your buffer is full/overrun. The Agilent has enough memory depth and speed to prevent a buffer overrun

    The CAN bus traffic is 500kbps.
    What is your serial speed? Is it still 38400bps?
    I think it's time to switch it to 500kbps.

    I keep reading the title of this thread as Prius cannabis message, which isn't at all the same thing. Every time I see it, I think "What the heck is that one about" and start to click, then realize my mistake, again, with an "Oh yea, that one..." You would think I'd learn eventually; must be the brain cells I damaged in the '60s and early '70s.

    Again, what is your serial speed? Is it still 38400bps?
    I think it's time to switch it to 500kbps.
    Or, you have to set filters to reduce the traffic.

    yes i set filters now and its working better

    even if i set the speed from the elmscan to 500kbps the terminal software only works at 384kb

    is seams that only the canbus side of the elscan works with 500kbps and the rs232/usb side only works on 384kbps
    i can tell the elmscan that i want 500kbps and get A "OK" back and when i check the elmscan for its setting i see 500kbps
    but my windows pc terminal stays in 384kbps

    OK. The 500kbps is the max on elmscan, but your terminal software max is 384kbps.
    Then, have you tried the 2nd fastest 230.4kbps on elmscan?

    No
    funny thing is
    i can set the elmscan to 500kbps ( and get a OK back ) and stil stay connected or reconnect at 384kbps with the terminal software

    i think the elmscan usb is only a rs232 with build in usb converter!?:(

    The elmscan 5 USB is based on ELM327 chip, and it has only RS232C interface
    The chip itself does not have USB.

    This is a very common configuration for adding USB support to embedded devices. I use one from FTI on many of my designs.

    and is the canusb version really usb on the chip or the same.

    i got the elmscan usb because it stated it was 500kbps instead of the 384kpbs off the rs232 version

    Re: Prius canbus messages

    Then, your terminal software does not support 500kbps...
    Are you talking about SJA1000 chip or something?
    The ELM327 does not have such "acceptance register".
    It has capability to mask/filter specific CAN-ID, though.

    They're supposed to spit back a set of data. Unfortunently, no one has ever mapped that set of data exactly. It supposedly contains inverter temps and other interesting values... I currently lack the means to send stuff to the prius, otherwise I'd try it myself.
