The competition spends their time and money highlighting features and technical aspects of their vehicles. That's exactly what I'd want to know if I were buying. The 2010 Prius commercials were creative but told you nothing about the vehicle. I wish Toyota would do some marketing based on what the car can do and its features.

It worries me that Toyota can't remember making a 2009 Prius.

Why would they advertise the previous generation Prius?

That's because you're a guy. You compare features and specs. There is already plenty of info on that. However, there is a huge demographic out there (ie women and 50+) who buys based on emotion. They don't care how about HP or even how the hybrid system works. They want to know how they will feel in it. They imagine driving to yoga classes, volunteer jobs, pet shelters, parks, churches, gatherings, and bookclubs. Those cute ads do exactly that: convey a sense of community, friendship, sharing, warmth, caring, and love. Toyota is smart to attach a feeling to the product. Apple does the same thing.

Fair enough and thanks for that perspective. Ads that combine both aspects would seem to be the way to go.

I agree completely. Car manufacturers need to spend less time talking about feelings and warm-fuzzies and spend more time telling us details like MPG, horsepower, low-end torque and other specifics. They need to spend less time tugging at emotions trying to make people feel good about their purchase. In short, they need to make more commercials like this one...

    (hint: I was being sarcastic)

Also, is the Toyota Cozy a commercial on television or a video posted only on the PriusProjects page? I haven't seen the Prius Cozy on the television.

I think "Really far" is a specific technical term. It means you brag about 40 mile range but the EPA only finds 35 miles on electricity.

    Don't worry, I don't take this stuff personally :p

FYI, this isn't a TV commercial. It's a little online video we put together just to have some fun. It's not designed to get people to want to buy the car - it's more aimed toward owners - and think Facebook, not PC.

You're free not to like it, but I don't get the hatred.

Don't worry Doug. My wife saw it on Facebook and she almost fell out of her chair laughing and I liked it.

Alright, it's not a television commercial. I believe you. I'll ignore the fact that it has a soundtrack and relatively high production values.

I'm glad it's NOT a commercial. Because I was just thinking "How could Toyota emasculate The Prius even more than they already have?" I mean, when your television commercials feature The Prius driving through a cartoonish landscape, to the mellow tones of 70's folk music while feltish nature sprites sway in it's wake? That's a hard act to follow.

So anyway, I thought to myself, how can Toyota convey that riding in a Prius is like riding in a...well never mind....we all saw "The Other Guys"....

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. It's like some estrogen filled, Hybrid Holiday Bazaar nightmare. You literally turn The Prius into a knitted bobble...to be placed on a folding table alongside bean bag filled Frogs and home baked cookies...

Nevermind that it's NOT a commercial. Toyota has tapped into that highly desired demographic. 65+ year old, widowed, church going women,- who knit.

If this was the classic movie "A Christmas Story", you just told Prius to try on the Bunny Pajamas....

Please. I don't care if this was the result of a misguided attempt at "fun"...I'm asking as a personal favor to any male that might ever drive a Prius...never do that again.

I mean if you are planning a follow up, where The Prius is covered in brightly painted pieces of macaroni...glued on it by smiling little girls with kittens...just stop yourself.....you'll regret it in the morning.
