Maybe you all have heard of this one.

I was on my way home tonight. Got to the intersection of the Toyota dealer when all h*** breaks loose in my car. All the 'emergency' lights went off and a high pitched noise began. (Fortunately I was already slowing for a red light... I had to really floor the brake, and she just slowly coasted to a stop... just before I would have 'run' that red.)

Turned off the car, tried resetting that way. No go, she would not start. On goes the flashers... A little while later she allowed me start her & limped into the Toyota dealer.

There was no warning. I feel lucky that it happened where it did.

    :(

All of which makes sense, and you need the reflash... except this:

"I had to really floor the brake, and she just slowly coasted to a stop"

There is no reason not to have brakes, given the backup systems and the lack of a need for a running ICE in this car.

I think we have a winner.... Hope it's that simple anyway, but that's exactly what the symptoms sound like.

No blinking fuel light. I had filled her up the day prior to this happening...

The abs light was on though. But that could have been because I was flooring the brakes.

sounds almost like an emergency cut off. (hold start for 3 seconds while driving)... but you said you heard a beep.. hmm.. Ihad my dash lightup the otehr day. the following day all the lights turned off. toyota wanted to charge me 125 dollars to check on it.. not fix anything.. but just check the engine light... HAH...

anyays.. glad to hear you made it off the road and your car is now being fixed.

Like i was saying, in emergency mode, its pretty hard to use the brakes (in my experiance)... so you were probably using the bare minimal help from the system while braking.

They just called to tell me that my computer failed in the car. It was intermitant, but it seems to be stable now. They had to order a new part, but I should be getting her back soon.

    :)

Try to get the DTC codes for us please...curious as to what the exact problem was.

What year, mileage, etc. is your Prius?

2004, aprox 45K miles, just shy of 2 yrs in service.

I'll see if I can get the code for the list.

Had you had the SSC 50P done before this happened?

    no.

When my husband's prius was at the shop about a month ago (died on the freeway - O2 sensor clogged), we asked them about any issues we should have been concerned about with either car - nothing...

They gave me an error code of P0607. Does anyone have info on this code?

My car is still waiting for it's replacement computer - they say maybe tomorrow... <_<

something about- while using cruise control, if the computer sees (some strange circumstance he doesn't remember) for a few seconds, it shuts off the cruise control. the cruise light starts to flash and it kicks the code listed above.

instructions to repair: replace HV ECU.

weird. wonder why the car shut itself down. he's going to check into it deeper tomorrow now that he's seen the account firsthand.

WOW - that's really ODD since I was not using the cruise control at the time, but starting to brake for a red light. I only use my cruise control on the freeways...

And the only light I remember being shocked to see was the ABS light.

    Thanks for the info.

I'm still stumped by the lack of decent brake function. Maybe there is another error, especially with the ABS lamp lit? Can the dealer explain that one? I'd be wary of driving with suspect brakes.

Hmmm, I thought the 50P applied to all 2004s
